Every year here on Batter's Box, we gather on Christmas Day to recount our blessings of the past year and to share ....

Oh hell, no we don't. We come to brag about what baseball-related gifts we found under the tree left by that irascible never-aging prospect, Kris Kringle (DH, North Pole U.) ... so, Bauxites, what did YOU get (or give) that relates the Winter Holidays to the Summer Pastime? Don't hold back! Best gift story gets, you guessed it, a Yuletide No-Prize!

Oh .. . and before I completely forget ... Merry Christmas and all that sort of thing, to you and yours from us and ours!

Oh man, what a great baseball Christmas ... the complete 2007 Topps AND Fleer baseball card sets ... and not one, but two Toledo Mud Hens shirts (I used to live walking distance from the Hens' stadium) .... also other books and various sundries of baseballishness. My wfie has taught the extended family well. "If in doubt, go baseball, especially cards."

But as great as that was, I'm sure lots of people can top (if not Topps) it  ... who's next?

For Hannukah my mom bought me the throwback Jays hat and a throwback Pirates one I've wanted for a few years. It's a black hat, with a yellow "P", Yellow brim and red trimming. I also may get a Starpass with some $$ given by my grandparents.

Unless Jeff , Steve or Dean was a member of Sly and the Family Stone, my holiday take was baseball-free.  Merry Christmas, Bauxites.

Authentic Halladay road jersey!  My wife must've been tired of hearing me whine that I wouldn't be able to wear my Burnett jersey after this season.

Merry Christmas and/or Happy Hannukah and/or Happy Festivus and/or a happy non-denominational holiday!

Finally got the Ken Burns series on Baseball. This will make the off-seasons a lot more bearable...except for the woman in my life. Also bought my dad The Bronx is Burning as he is unfortunately, a huge Yankee fan.

I got a Wells Jersey and a Hockey Jersey and cap for our local Junior team called the Chase Chiefs which is based on the Black Hawks home uni.  Love em both and had a hard time deciding what to wear for the rest of today.

Jays Red-Sox Tickets for the May 1 game in Boston.  Third game of a 3 game set.

Its a Thursday so my wife and I will need to take a couple days off work.

Jays gear in Fenway should be fun!

I received Rob Neyer's baseball blunder book.  I don't recall the exact title.

I got a BA troika - the 08 Almanac, the 08 Prospects book (which will come soon) and my 08 subscription re-newed. Oh yeah, and lots of non-basball stuff.
ahitisahit - Tuesday, December 25 2007 @ 06:49 PM EST (#178253) #
The bride got me a Matt Stairs jersey. $8 shipping from Toronto to PEI is ridiculous, but I think it's great. Here's hoping he can have an '08 like '07.

Gave the father-in-law the best baseball book (best sports book?) ever, "The Boys of Summer".  Hmm...poll topic?

I got a subscription to Baseball Digest. I don't know anything about it - any insight?

 Hmm...poll topic?

budgell, believe it or not, we've done that poll already, long ago, here.

Boys of Summer finished third in the balloting.

Mrs. Hugo got me an authentic Halladay home jersey.  Also, I got a throwback Jays cap (the blue/white with the old logo), and the Hardball Times Annual.  Great haul, I must say.  We had an interesting Christmas as all 14 of us gathered at my mom's house on the 24th (it was my daughter's first Christmas) to begin the cooking of the traditional Italian festa di mare (featuring about every ocean creature you can name), only to find out that my mom's oven was broken.  So we had to pack up an entire kitchen full of food, all the presents, 4 dogs, and the tree and move the entire operation to my cousin's house in Staten Island.  But I must say, everything went great!  Happy Holidays everyone!

Kringle has good taste in athletic aesthetics. I got stirrups.

On Boxing Day he also gave the Padres Mark Prior, and Mark Prior the privilege of pitching in Petco Park for his hometown team. One year deal, $1 million plus $4.5MM in possible performance bonuses. Makes sense to me.

I enjoyed Baseball Digest years ago (gulp, 20 years) and picked it up every so often since then. Nothing amazing but it can be fun to read at times. I always enjoyed the stories focusing on one player or team who I don't normally pay attention to. I'd rank it below Baseball America but as long as you don't expect anything landbreaking it is worth reading.

As to my Christmas, no baseball stuff but lots of clothes and misc stuff that is nice.

Jim Callis' Top Ten prospects (and selected other ranks) via John Sickels' site.  Callis has Travis Snider at #9.  Last year he had him at #45.

Not exactly something I got, but here's a link to a Jays' commercial on TSN from the Buck/Dan days...

Callis has Travis Snider at #9.  Last year he had him at #45.

That would place Snider as the top outfielder and #3 overall once the season starts and 7 of those 10 are in the majors. Although I would take that list with a grain of salt because what the hell Moustakas is doing up there so high already is beyond me.

Along with a few magazines and a neat Babe Ruth tie (for special occasions), I will receive the 2007 season Strat-O-Matic cards when they're shipped in February.

Best wishes for any holidays you have left, and for the 2008 season.

The folks were able to deliver something that satisfied my love of baseball and the music of The Hold Steady with this swell mock Twins t-shirt:

I got a bottle of Schilling Schardonnay.  Seriously, this product exists.

Finally got the Ken Burns series on Baseball.

Fantastic gift.  It's a pre-season ritual for me.

Jays Red-Sox Tickets for the May 1 game in Boston.  Third game of a 3 game set.

Nice.

I will receive the 2007 season Strat-O-Matic cards when they're shipped in February.

Also very cool.

A pair of Terrace Club infield seats Canada Day, July 1st and 2nd in Seattle from the gf for my 14 yr old son and I.

Priceless!

Nothing baseball related except for the board game Monopoly, Detroit Tigers Version.  But a little outdated.  It's got Jason Grilli, Neifi Perez, and a couple of other players no longer with the team.  Sheffield's not there.  And Kenny Rogers is Boardwalk...

Every vet catcher who is not Mike Leiberthal who signs elsewhere is a blessing.

Are the Jays interested in Leiberthal? The Dodgers paid 100k to buy back his 1.4M option, so I don't see anybody offering him more than that.

A Samsung 37" LCD TV to watch the Jays on.  A gift from my fiancee after I purchased her the ring in July.
