Lansing won in ten innings as Tim Collins blew his first save of the year.  The blown save opened the door for David Cooper, playing in his first game in the Midwest League, to single in the winning run.  The GCL Jays won both ends of a twin bill.  Otherwise Syracuse gave up nine runs, New Hampshire gave up eleven runs, and Auburn gave up nine runs, all in losing efforts.  Dunedin "only" gave up six runs.

Buffalo 9  Syracuse 5

Through five innings this game was tied at 2.  Mike MacDonald had given up a two run home run to Asdrubal Cabrera, the Chiefs scored two in the first with two singles, a walk and a hit batter.  MacDonald loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, Mac Donald was replaced by Sean Stidfole who gave up a two run single.  Stidfole then gave up two runs of his own in the seventh inning.  The Chiefs got runs in the seventh and ninth on back to back doubles by Chip Cannon and Wayne Lydon.  Jo Matumoto gave up three runs in the ninth.

Mench was 3-4, Lydon, Watson and Cannon had two hits each.

New Hampshire 1  Portland 11

Robert Ray was roughed up in this game, seven runs in 3.1 innings.  Julio Pinto then gave up three runs in one inning.   With the Chiefs down 10-1 the game went into cruise control.  Andrew Pinckney had three hits, Scott Campbell and Eric Nielsen had two each.  On WWJP, JP said that Aaron Mathews foot is badly damaged and it sounds like he won't be back this year.

Dunedin 2  Daytona 6

Dunedin went ahead 2-0 in the third when Brian Dopirak doubled in both runs.  AJ Wideman was pitching well through Six innings with one run allowed and with thanks to three DP's behind him.  Wideman loaded the bases in the seventh and left with one out.  Celson Polanco threw gas on the flames, he made an error to give up the tying run and then came a grand slam.

Dopirak and Chris Emanuele had two hits each.

Cedar Rapids 2  Lansing 3 - 10 innings

Lansing took a 2-1 lead to the ninth with little Tim Collins on for the save but Collins had his first blown save of the season.  Collins allowed a lead-off double then gave up a one out single.  Collins got the win when the Jays scored in the tenth, John Tolisano singled, Jon Jaspe singled, Matt Liuzza walked to load the bases, then new Lugnut David Cooper singled in the winning run.  Lansing took the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a wild pitch.  Trystan Magnuson started and gave up an unearned run in three innings.  Of note Joe Wice pitched three innings in relief with seven strikeouts.  Jaspe had three hits, Darin Mastroianni had two.  David Cooper was 1-3 with two walks in his debut.

Auburn 1  Aberdeen 9

Josh Wells had a tough night, eight runs in 2.1 innings which included four walks, four hits, two of them triples, a hit batter, a balk, and an error.  Strangely Auburn outhit Aberdeen 11 to 10.  Chris Demons, Adam Amar, Bryan Kervin and Carlos Vazquez had two hits each.  Robert Sobolewski is still looking for his first professional hit.

GCL Jays 2  GCL Yankees 0 - 11 innings

The Jays had three hits through 10 innings.  The Yankees were held to five hits.  The Jays pitchers were Ryan Page - 4.2 IP; John Anderson 2.1 IP; and Jared Potts 4 IP.  All pitched well, obviously.  In the eleventh Kenny Wilson walked, stole second, went to third on a botched pick-off, and scored on a sac fly from Jon Talley.  Then Antonio Jimenez walked, went to second on an error and scored on a double from Kyle Gilligan.

GCL Yankees 1  GCL Jays 5 - 7 innings

After going ten scoreless innings in game one, the Jays scored in each of the first three innings of this game.  In the first Luis Fernandez singled, Justin McClanahan doubled and both scored on a sac fly and an error.  Fernandez hit a two run home run in the second and Robby Diaz hit a solo home run in the third.  On the mound Jonas Cuotto pitched five innings and allowed just a solo home run.

3 star selection

3rd star - Kenny Wilson
2nd star - Jon Jaspe
1st star - Luis Fernandez

Sobolewski did nothing in the College World Series and now is doing nothing (0 for 8) in his pro debut.  Should I be the first to write him off??

I thought the plan with Cooper was to start him at Auburn and then end the season in Dunedin without going thru Lansing?  Am I misremembering things?

Is this now the 2nd run Tiny Tim has allowed this week?

Scott Campbell reached base 3 times in 5 trips yesterday, and he still has a positive W/K.  He has done this every year of his minor league and collegiate career. What is new is that he has demonstrated enough pop to keep the pitchers honest.  I don't know whether he can play second base well enough to stay there, but this young man should have a significant major league career in his future.

Yeah ayjackson, I'd write him off. 0/8? Horrible.  That's such a big sample size too.

Good audition for the rotation for after AJ is traded.

Can you imagine a rotation that started out as (Halladay, Burnett, McGowan, Marcum and Litsch) could look like this in just a few weeks (Halladay, Litsch, Parrish, Purcey, Cecil).

Crazy.

Not really. I imagine Marcum will be back soon after the break.
