Every year here on Batter's Box, we gather on Christmas Day to recount our blessings of the past year and to share ....

Oh hell, no we don't. We come to brag about what baseball-related gifts we found under the tree left by that irascible never-aging prospect, Kris Kringle (DH, North Pole U.) ... so, Bauxites, what did YOU get (or give) that relates the Winter Holidays to the Summer Pastime? Don't hold back! Best gift story gets, you guessed it, a Yuletide No-Prize!

This sharing is usually led by our own Mick Doherty, I am pinch hitting this year.  Oh .. . and before I completely forget ... Merry Christmas and all that sort of thing, to you and yours from us and ours!

The THT Baseball Annual will eventually get ordered for me this month.  Merry Christmas, Bauxites.

I got a Carlos Delgado signed baseball, Rob Neyer's Big Book of Baseball Blunders and The Mind of Bill James (which unfortunately, I already own, but my didn't know that and at least she was trying).

...I also bought myself a pair of WBC ticket strips but since the tickets won't be mailed and I did it in November, all that happened their is that they appeared on my Xmas CC bill.

My significant other came through again in the clutch for my baseball gifts.  After hearing me endlessly complain about how hard it is to buy Baseball America outside of Toronto and missing out on the AL East issue, she got me a one year subscription to BA which kicked in with the AL West issue.  Spending our Christmas holiday here in Madison, Wisconsin - she also tracked down a "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" 2009 calendar and the Hardball Times 2009 annual at Barnes and Noble.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

You could say I had Christmas in the summertime when I went to Toronto and New York to watch the Jays. I have giftcards/money and I will be using them to purchase MLB 09 The Show (hands down the best baseball series) for the PS3 and BP 2009. I'm probably going to make another road trip to watch the Jays in Toronto and Seattle next season.

As usual; I get my BA yearbook, my next year's BA subscription and the BA Prospects book ( which as you know doesn't actually show up until March(ish). However this year I also got a new set of soft white baseballs. A couple of years ago I fell off my mountain bike and broke three fingers on my left hand - my fingers get stiff - so I get baseball looking soft rubber balls I can squeeze to keep my hands flexible.

Not counting the trip we took to Chicago and Washington in the spring (with the understanding that it would count as a Christmas for both of us) during which we saw one game each at Wrigley, USCellular, and thw new Nationals Park, I got my Strat-O-Matic cards for the 2008 season. All this leaves me with happy feelings and I wish the same for everyone at DaBox for next season/year.

Well, back in October I was playing golf with a buddy of mine and a friend of his. I drove out and back with his buddy since we lived on the same street. Anyways, his friend was in town visiting because it was Thanksgiving (we live in Halifax) but he lives up in Toronto and works for TD. Not sure how it came up, but I mentioned I had been trying to find a 92/93 style Jays jersey to give to my sister for a Christmas present (yes - she is a huge Jays fan. Probably watches 100 games a summer on her tele, but she'll never really understand what OPS+ means) because we're not as fond of the new style logos. So he mentions this fundraiser he was a part of in the summer...

Fast forward to Christmas morning. I had a pretty huge smile on my face as I watched my mom and sister jump up and down in each others arms after my sister unwrapped a 1993 World Series edition Blue Jays jersey, Joe Carter #29, autographed by the man himself on the back under the numbers.

It looks like the Jays got a new backup catcher for Christmas.

Oh, yeah; I also got a neat 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle (an annual gift from a friend) that features Baseball history highlights. It includes a depiction of Joe touching them all and is really well done. What would you include if limited to 61 cm X 76 cm?

   Happy new year.

It looks like the Jays got a new backup catcher for Christmas.

Based on the reasonable, once held belief that the Burnett money would be converted into a DH, this is tantamount to a lump of coal.

Man, I totally thought I had the no-prize wrapped up this year! All that work...
