As several Bauxites have noted in the Scutaro thread, Texas Ranger Web stalwart Jamey Newberg has just confirmed:

Texas has claimed veteran utility infielder Joe Inglett, age 31, off  waivers from Toronto. His addition brings the club's 40-man roster total to 38 players.

Well, there won't be much time at short for the ex-Jay, not with Elvis Andrus pickin' and grinnin' ... but what kind of role do you see for Inglett in North Texas? And share your memories of Mighty Joe right here on Batter's Box ....

Best Kinsler insurance nothing can buy. Excellent pickup by the Rangers.

I don't think it matters who the incumbent is, Inglett wasn't going to play any short anyhow.

With Kinsler consistently missing a chunk of games to injury, I agree with Alex that Inglett serves as a nice complement at second base. And the once consistent picture of health, Michael Young, finally succumbed to injuries in 2009 so Inglett could seve as a backup at 3B as well.

Nice pickup. Inglett likely should be in the majors so it was just a matter of finding the right fit.

pickin' and grinnin'

Elvis Andrus is the joker?  who knew.

What Alex and Chuck said.  Smart low-cost acquisition by the Rangers.

Inglett really got screwed around this year.  I'm not thrilled about seeing him go but I hope he does well in Texas.

My favourite memory was his first game in Toronto during the 2007 season finale when he had a triple and single against the Tampa Bay "soon not to be called" Devil Rays.  Anyone remember which number he wore then?

Another memory that stands out was him lining that ball to right that Ichiro couldn't quite get to as the Jays pulled out this Flashback Friday win against the Mariners in July.

Screwed - how? I know he is in the cadre of players (Johnson, JMac, Eckstein) that people enjoy watching for his grit-scrap, but Inglett really only fits well on a major league team at 2B. The fact that he had any playing time with the Jays was an indication that something was broken with the team or that it was September and the Jays were long out of the race.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed watching him play and he did fill in admirably at 2B in 2008. Although noticing him as a replacement did always remind me of the seriousness and stupidity of the injury that had Hill out. Unfortunately for Inglett, the Rangers already have an incumbent at 2B - too bad he didn't end on a team with a void at 2B.
