It's an abbreviated "I was at the Jays game last night" version of the minor league update.  Dunedin were the only winners Friday paced by a 15 hit attack.  Lansing also had 15 hits but came out on the losing end.  Las Vegas and New Hampshire scored just one run each.

Fresno 7  Las Vegas 1

Marty McLeary gave up three runs in the first and two in the second and the 51's were down 5-0 quickly.  Lance Broadway gave up two more runs in the third but generally pitched well as he went seven innings to save the bullpen.  Las Vegas' only run came via a home run by Jorge Padilla.

Luis Figueroa, Chris Lubanski and Jorge Padilla had two hits each.  Brett Wallace was back in the lineup and went 1-4.  The "new guys", Emaus and Calderone were hitless while Diaz went 1-3.

Altoona 6 New Hampshire 1

Altoona has the best record in the Eastern league and they showed why on Friday night.  New Hampshire were held to just six hits and their only run came from a solo home run by the hot-hitting Shawn Bowman.

Luis Perez was tagged for five of the runs in 5.1 innings.  Altoona had 12 baserunners off Perez, nine hits and three walks.

Dunedin 12  Fort Myers 6

Dunedin had a 4-0 lead, lost it, but scored four in the fifth and three in the seventh for the win.  Joel Carreno was the winner, he went six innings and gave up four runs.

Dunedin had 15 hits, which were evenly distributed, six players had a multi-hit game.  Mike McDade had three hits including a double and a home run.  The two hit club included Adeiny Hechavarria; Travis d'Arnaud; Jon Talley; John Tolisano; and Brad McElroy.

Quad Cities 15  Lansing 8

Each team had 15 hits in a tough night for pitchers.  Quad Cities took a 5-0 lead and Lansing fought back to tie the game but the Quad put up an 8 spot in the seventh and went on to win.  Aaron Loup made the spot start and he surrendered the first five runs over four innings.  Matt Wright pitched OK in the fifth and sixth but blew up in the seventh and was tagged for seven runs.

Offensively Ryan Goins and Balbino Fuenmayor led the Lugnuts.  Goins went 4-5 with a home run.  Balbino was 3-5 also with a home run.  Eric Eiland and Oliver Dominguez had two hits each.  Ryan Schimpf sat out after being hit in the head by a pitch on Thursday.

Three Stars

3rd star - Jon Talley, 3 RBI's including the go-ahead runs in the fifth
2nd star - Ryan Goins
1st star - Mike McDade

Talley is now up to .292/.370/.486 (.856 ops).  I notice he's lost a couple of inches since he was drafted (now listed as 6'3"), can he stick behind the plate Gerry?  He's 21 - same as d'Arnaud (8 days younger).  D'Arnaud's slash is very similar .304/.352/.509 (.861 ops).

The Draft thread is about to be bumped from the first page, so I'll comment here.  Jason Churchill has a ESPN Insider blog up about various performances and rumours at the NCAA tourney.  Of note, he said Grandal may be working on a pre-draft deal with the Royals and that the Mets may still go college pitcher (Workman had an excellent outing last night).  These two developments would go al long way to helping the Jays out at #11, as they don't seem to be in on either Grandal or college pitching.

Any news on whether Paxton signed the form giving the Jays permission to go ahead and redraft him this year?

Saturday Night in Dunedin:  "2 bunt walk off for Dunedin Jays"

On a hot muggy evening with a 95 degree (f) temp, Dunedin took St. Lucie 7 -6 in 10 innings after two consective bunts by Tolisano and McElroy combined with a throwing error by St. Lucie that plated Talley with the winning run.  Dumas Garcia got the win, despite some control issues.  Farina had a great outing.  K. Rod was OK on the start.  Talley and Tolisano had 2 hits each and McClanahan, d'Arnaud, McDade, McElroy, Ramirez  had 1 smack each.  A-Hech went 0 for 5 with a strike out.  But the bad news, Pastornicky appeared to have injured his right leg (maybe hamstring) scoring in the third inning.  He was severely limping about half the way from 3rd to home.  Will try to nail down the details on Pastornicky's injury at the game tomorrow.

Had some great pics made.  Will post those tomorrow night or Monday morning with hopefully some better news on Pastornicki and my impressions/observations of the game, defence and D-Jays hitting, etc.  I will post the pics my photog buddy took  when I figure out how to do so.  (I am new to this, but I can be a quick study).  It looks like I will see the game tomorrow afternoon and the game this coming Thursday evening with Clearwater just before the Florida State League breaks for the All Star game.

STL   6-10-3;  DUN  7-9-1  10 Innings.  Its 11:30 PM and I am going to brew an espresso and tune in to the last half of Las Vegas game at Tacoma.

Any news on whether Paxton signed the form giving the Jays permission to go ahead and redraft him this year?

I've heard nothing direct, but two pieces of circumstantial evidence:

Andrew Tionnish (I think - some draft related jays guy) was asked if the Jays would take Paxton again if they could and he replied, paraphrasing, "If he's the best guy on our board at that pick, sure we would."
No reference to any waiver or lack thereof.

Paxtron was quoted in a seperate piece as saying he harbored no ill-will towards Beeston or the Jays.

Jim Callis updated his top 10 draft picks.  He has my preferred three picks - Josh Sale, Michael Choice and Zach Cox - going 8, 9 and 10.  Losing that tiebreaker to San Diego and Oakland could be costly.  My next favourite would be high school pitcher Karsten Whitson, though the Jays are said to be off the prep pitchers at 11.

From Law today:

"the Blue Jays now poised to land Canadian catcher Kellin Deglan at No. 34"

I won't post the link as it's subscriber only.

Hopefully this turns out better than the last Canadian the Jays drafted in the supplemental round.

Bastian tweeted that the jays worked out Lavon Washington at the RC today.  He was drafted by the Rays in the first round last year but didn't sign.  It was a mistake because he's outside the top 50 this year in most rankings.  That said, it might be a good signability pick for the Jays at #38 - something to watch.
