The 2010 Playoffs start tomorrow day, and though the Jays are not participating for the 16th time in 17 years (we will have to count the strike year as a moral victory), 8 other teams are! So Bauxites, who's going to, you know, win it all.

The four series are:

Cincy v. Philly
Atlanta v. San Francisco

New York v. Minnesota
Tampa v. Texas

Feel free to make predictions. A fabulous No-Prize to the Bauxite with the best playoff predictions. 1 point for getting a LDS winner right, 2 for a LCS winner, and 3 for the WS winner, plus a bonus point if you guess the correct number of games along with the winning team.

I'll get the ball rolling:

Philly over Cincy in 4
Atlanta over San Francisco in 5
Minnesota over New York in 5
Texas over Tampa Bay in 4

Philly over Atlanta in 5
Texas over Minnesota in 7

Philly over Texas in 6.

Tiebreaker 1 - World Series MVP: Roy Halladay
Tiebreaker 2 - Total number of home runs hit in 2010 World Series: 10

This year's playoffs will be looked back upon with great fondness 30 years from now, with Evan Longoria's walk-off home run off Rivera in Game 7 and Jason Heyward's walk-off home run against Soriano in Game 7 being the events that everyone remembers.  You read it here first. :)

I was going to post a whole thread about this, but meh, a comment here is just as well. I am as conflicted as I have ever been post-seasonally. I am, as most Bauxites know, a Yankee fan. But I live in North Texas in the shadow of the Rangers actually, um, winning something for a change. And the Reds were "my team" growing up in Ohio as a lad. My siter and her youngsters live in Philly. I think -- that's think, as in not sure -- I would ideally like to see a Rangers/Reds World Series. (The Yankees have 29 rings. Let the third decade of completion wait a year!) ... but then I really wouldn't know who to root for. I think my head would asplode. In a good way? The Red Sox can't win it. Nor can the Mets or Angels or Dodgers. Life is moderately protected on the "good" side, then ...

Mick, having 26 favourite teams seems both a blessing and a curse.

Mick, I'm certain I've corrected you on this once before.  But I do know that Girardi wore #27 last year, representing his goal of the Yankees' 27th championship.

Rather than predicting what will happen, I'll go with what I want to happen as playoffs are a crapshoot anyways.

Philly over Cincy
SF over Atlanta
Minnesota over NYY
Texas over Tampa Bay

SF over Philly (poor Halladay)
Texas over Minny

SF over Texas for all the marbles

Why?

Because SF has had the Giants forever, went through the whole Bonds mess, saw bizarre teams and all-time greats but never has won it all. It's time.

Because Texas has been watching and hoping all year that their team wouldn't do an Expos, plus is now being creative with how to work their pitchers and I love to see creativity rewarded.

Teams with my head, numbers with my heart:

Phillies over Reds in 5
EL GIGANTE over Braves in 5
Twins over Yankees in 5
Rays over EL RANGERO in 5.

Phillies over EL GIGANTE in 6
Rays over Twins in 7.

Rays over Phillies in 6.

World Series MVP: B.J. Upton
Total home runs: 15.

BONUS PICK: I will happily take the Reds as a prohibitive, +240 underdog to win their series against Philly. They can hit, and their bullpen should help them keep games close enough for the impact of random chance to overwhelm etc.
