The Farm Cubs were undefeated on the evening and 4 of the 7 games were decided by 2 runs or less.   Notably the Farm Club Pitching staffs were brilliant overall, striking out a total of 69 in the 7 games played Friday (average: 9.5 Ks per game)

Las Vegas 10  Tucson 8

A strong 7.0 IP was delivered by LV starter Brad Mills (9-7) allowing seven runs, but striking out 9.  He took the win, thanks to 7 runs scored in the late innings by the 51s.  Danny Farquar came on in the 9th to get the save, his 9th.  And the offence wasn’t too shabby at all.

At the plate, the 51s served up some long ball led by Scott Woodward (3 for 4, 2R, 2HR, 4RBIs). Brett Lawrie (2 for 5 ,2R, HR, K) drove in a pair with a dinger in the 8th.  And Ricardo Nanita (2 for 4, 2R, HR, RBI, BB) went yard all alone in the 3rd.  Jayson Nix (3 for 5, R, 3 2B,RBI) and Danny Perales (3 for 4, R, K) each added hit X 3.  David Cooper (1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K) and Ryan Budde (1 for 4, R, 2B, RBI, K) threw in an RBI each for good measure.  Many Mayorson (0 for 0) was a defence substitution at second base for Woodward and was the only 51 to not hit (he had no ABs).

New Hampshire 2  Portland 1

Pitching was the story as well for the Fisher Cats with Starter and winner Zach Stewart (5-6) shinning in 7.2 IP with 8 Ks, 1 R and 5 H.  Bobby Korecky (S, 9) came on in the 9th for the save, striking out 2, and walking one.  Travis d’Arnaud (1 for 3, R, 2B, BB) had a passed ball in the 4th with runners advancing, but no other damage.

NH trickled out 5 hits, but made them count, scoring their lonely two runs in the 2nd and the 5th.  In the 2nd after a pair of walks by d’Arnaud and Yan Gomes (0 for 1, 2BB), John Tolisano (0 for 4,K) plated d’Arnaud with a force out grounder.  Then Jonathan Diaz (1 for 3, K) singled, bringing Tolisano to the plate where he was thrown out.  In the 5th a Sac Fly to center by Adeiny Hechavarria (1 for 3, 2B, RBI,K) brought in Justin Jackson (0 for 2, R, BB, K) who had walked earlier.  Anthony Gose (2 for 4) had the only multi-hit bat for NH.

Dunedin 3  Charlotte 2

Deck McGuire (W, 7-4) had a fine 6.0 inning outing striking out 8 and shutting out the Stone Crabs by allowing only a pair of hits on the rain delayed damp field in Port Charlotte.    Dunedin Scored in the 5th  and 6th innings and Wes Etheridge got the save, working a single inning in the 9th  shutting out Port Charlotte.

In the 5th, Ryan Goins (1 for 3, R, BB, K) singled on a line drive to center.  Ivan Contreras (1 for 2, BB) moved him to 2nd on a Sac Bunt.  Then, Brad McElroy (1 for 3, 2B, RBI, BB) doubled him home.  In the 6th, Sean Ochinko (2 for 3, R, HR, BB, K) went to the yard solo.  Then Kevin Nolan (2 for 4, 2b) doubled, moving Bryan Van Kirk (1 for 3, R, BB) to 3rd.  Van Kirk scored on a wild pitch.

Lansing 5  Wisconsin 4

Lansing’s 9 hits powered them to a squeak by win o the delight of the 7,123 who attended Cooley Law School field in Lansing on a muggy 96 degree night.  Starting pitcher Andrew Liebel (2-0) got the win despite getting tapped for 3 runs and 4 hits in 5.1 innings of work.   Sam Strickland got his first save of the year, coming on in the 9th to blank Wisconsin with a hit, a BB, and 3 Ks.  Four errors plagued the Luggies defence,  two by Oliver Dominguez (1 for 3, R, BB, RBI, K) his 18th and 19th, one by K.C. Hobson (1 for 4, K) and one by Bryson Namba (0 for 3, K).  Errors by Dominguez (2) in the  4th and K.C. Hobson in the 6th cost runs.

Vancouver 7  Eugene 1

Vancouver scored in every inning save the 4th and the 6th, dominating  Eugene with 16 hits and a decent outing by Blake McFarland (4-2). Bryan Longpre, Alex Pepe and Phillip Brua did their job shutting out Eugene in the 3 innings they were on the mound.

The great Balbino (Fuenmayor) (2 for 5, R, HR, 2) led the run producers with a 2 run shot in the 5th inning.  Shane Opits (3 for 5) led in hits, but had no RBI.  Other multi-hit lumber was provided by Jonathan Berti (2 for 5, 2R, RBI), Jonathan Jones (2 for 4, 2R, BB, K), Nicholas Baligod (2 for 5, 2B, RBI, K), and Chris Shaeffer (2 for 5).

The Bluefield really poured it on Pulaski, dominating with a blistering 11 hits and solid pitching from starter and winner Noah Syndergaard (3-0) and relievers Milciades Santana, Les Williams and Adre Sikula did nice work as well striking out 7 between them.  Matt Johnson (1 for 4, 2B, RBI, K) and Andy Ferman (0 for 4, RBI, K) each had 2 errors.

"Scott" Woodward's actual name is "Chris" but Scott is nice too.

I would probably give the HM to Syndergaard (5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K) over Mills.

You know the PCL inflates stats when Nix (169/245/309) gets sent down to Vegas and gets off to a 333/385/778 start...

Mamboon, I got a kick out of 7.0 STRONG IP by Mills. I was thinking the same thing earlier when I saw it on the Jay's site. The heat & other conditions make pitching in LV very difficult and so I have to search for the positives.

This was the DSL Jays 46th game of the season. Prior to Tonguar's 2 HR performance (his first 2 of the season BTW), the entire team had hit a grand total of 4 HR's.  Tonguar's 2  gives him the undisputed team lead in the dinger department.

Through Jay's Land the sounds of cries of despair, the renting of clothes and the wails of outrage circle the globe as we all yell, "Take JoJo to a Nunnery!" Or some such refrain.

Fear not - AA has a handle on it.

For 2012 - Besides reasonable near ready stalwarts like: Stewart and Cecil there lurks ready for at least a "look at the show in 2012": (In the order yours truly sees their ceilings): 1) Alvarez, 2) Hutchison, 3) Drabek, 4) Molina, 5) McGuire, 6) Carreno, 7) McGowan and 8) Jenkins.

When you have the above to select from and add to Morrow and Romero - I assure you - JoJo will be merely an unpleasant aftertaste - not unlike a too young scotch or a tepid American beer.

Mylegacy, I assume you mean the 'rending' of clothes.  Only Pirates fans need to rent clothes.

It's just Rookie League, but Dickie Jo homered and walked again in three plate trips. His seasonal line of .313/.432/.478 looks like something his father might have posted. He's 19 and ready for Lansing in the spring, I think.

Vega-Rosado looks set to line up next to him in Lansing next year.  Should be a nice middle infield combo if they can advance together and each learn a little bit about both SS and 2B along the way.  Rosado sounds like he actually may have the better tools for short long term though he's playing primarily 2B at the moment.

Although Thon has posted good numbers when he's played, he's also only playing part-time, probably due to the lingering effects of his mysterious blood disorder. In yesterday's doubleheader for instance, he was pulled after 3 plate appearances in the first game and didn't play at all in the second.
