Buffalo won with some strong performances. Jim Negrych, Eugenio Velez and Mauro Gomez played big roles and Anthony Gose hit a two run home run. Dave Bush and Neil Wagner were the pitching stars. New Hampshire fell short, Dunedin were semi-rained out, Lansing had a nice come from behind win as Christian Lopes continued to hit.

Buffalo 7 Louisville 5

The Bisons got out to a fast start. In the first inning Mauro Gomez doubled in Jim Negrych and Moises Sierra, both of whom had singled. Buffalo added three more runs in the second on two home runs. Eugenio Velez had a solo shot and Anthony Gose a two run shot.

Dave Bush started on short rest in Ramon Ortiz's spot. His main problem was the Reds speedster Billy Hamilton who hit his first two home runs of the season, both solo shots. Bush went six innings and left with a 6-2 lead. Chad Beck came out for the seventh and gave up three runs. He had to be saved by Neil Wagner who came into a bases loaded one out situation and got out of the jam and got the next six outs too. Wagner got 8 outs, 6 via strikeouts.

Negrych, Sierra, Velez and Gomez had 2 hits each. Gose was 1-4 with a walk and no K's.

New Hampshire 2 Trenton 3

This was a pitchers duel. Ryan Tepera went five innings, gave up one run on three hits. Meanwhile the Fisher Cat offense was quiet too, they were shutout until the ninth inning. An error, 3 walks and a hit made it a one run game, with the bases loaded and Kevin Pillar up to bat. But then a pitch got away from the catcher, Adam Loewen broke for home and was out at the plate, game over.

Ryan Schimpf and Loewen had two hits each.

Dunedin at Daytona - suspended

This game was called due to rain in the third inning. Dunedin had gone 9 up 9 down to that point. The game will be finished Saturday before the regular game.

Lansing 7 Dayton 4

Alonzo Gonzalez had a good'ish start. He did pitch six innings but he gave up eight hits, two walks and he hit a batter. Dayton had baserunners in every inning. The Lugnuts put the first two hitters on base in each of the first two innings and scored one run in each of those innings. But the Luggies broke it open with four in the sixth highlighted by Christian Lopes two run double. Lopes added a home run in the seventh inning to make it a 7-3 game.

Shane Opitz had three hits. Lopes had two with 3 RBI's.

Three Stars

#3 - Mauro Gomez

#2 - Neil Wagner

Ricky Romero starts tonight for the Herd in Louisville. That should go well.

Buffalo is hitting 296/374/465 (839 OPS) as a team. The next highest team OPS is Syracuse at 711. That's an incredible gap.

Buffalo's pitching is in the bottom half of the league, though.

It went...not good. A very labor intensive 3 2/3. I'll
post more on it later.

On the bright side, Romero lasted 3 1/3 innings more tonight than in Tampa and he pitched to the score! Oy vey, what a fugly pitching line - 3.2 10 6 6 5 0 14.73. Poor LouisvilleJaysFan, having to witness that pitching carnage.

Some things of note:

1st Inning:

Ricky never looked comfortable and it started when the first batter he faced, who just so happened to be Billy Hamilton, got on. The next batter, Henry Rodriguez, hit what we would be a double play ball on most any other player in the minors, but Goins took a quick look to 2nd and decided not to even chance it. With Hamilton on 2nd, all hell broke loose for Ricky. Hamilton steals 3rd on the 1st pitch of the 3rd batter and then Ricky proceeds to throw the 2nd pitch to Felix Perez in front of the plate and Thole didn't get his mitt down quick enough...the ball spurts out and Hamilton is home.

2nd inning:

Ricky lets up a couple hits, but works through. The last batter of the inning hit one right at Romero and he deflected it, luckily that batter was a rather portly catcher and Ricky was able to get to the ball and toss him out.

3rd inning:

Hamilton hits a softie to Ricky's right and Ricky struggles to pick up the ball, of course, that's all Hamilton needs and he's aboard. Ricky was visibly pissed off that he could not field the ball, hitting the his glove with his hand and saying a choice word or two to himself. Gose actually had Hamilton nailed at home, but Thole dropped the ball on the tag and 2nd run of the game scored for Louisville. It gets pretty ugly after that and following the Phipps single, Korecky is already throwing in the Bison bullpen. Ricky gives up another hit, but then gets out of the inning.

4th inning:

Ricky struggles mightily and is replaced by Korecky.

Overall:

Romero threw several pitches in the dirt, at least four skipped in front of the plate. His fastball was consistently around 91 according to the stadium gun. Louisville was making good contact on whatever he threw, there weren't a lot of foul balls...save for Hessman in the 4th, who fouled off 4 or 5 to get to his eventual walk. Ricky never looked comfortable and in control, likely because every inning started as a battle and endured that way.

Other things of note:

Sierra was hit in the head with a pitch in the first. Big gasp from the crowd, the trainer comes out and Sierra shakes it off and proceeds down to first. Later, Sierra's homerun was a monster to the deepest part of the park. It bounced on top of the Overlook Grill before coming back to the patio area. Gose came out and did a routine with the Zooperstars before the bottom of the 3rd. He seems like a fun guy and a good sport, didn't show much with the bat though.
