Kramer Champlin came within one out of a perfect game (7 inning variety). The Lansing twitter feed said the single that broke up the perfect game was a tough hop single past Emilio Guerrero, some thought it could have been scored an error. Lansing got the win to complete the doubleheader sweep. Ben White pitched a shutout in game one. Sean Nolin had nine strikeouts and the Fisher Cats had a three run, two run and a solo home run. Dunedin played three innings and got a win, Rajai Davis had a triple. Buffalo used fifteen hits to win.

Although Champlin wasn't perfect the affiliates were.

Buffalo 10  Scranton/WB 4

Claudio Vargas pitched into the seventh, his longest start of the season. He did allow four runs. The offense was firing on all cyclinders, they had 15 hits and every hitter got one. Seven hitters scored a run, and seven hitters drove in a run. Mike McCoy led all hitters going 3-4, all doubles. Mickey Storey got the last 8 outs.

New Hampshire 6  Erie 2

Sean Nolin retired the first 12 hitters. He gave up two runs in the fifth, one earned, before retiring the side in the sixth. 6 IP, 3H, 0BB, 9K's.

For the offense Adam Loewen hit a 3 run home run in the first, Ryan Schimpf had a two run shot in the second and Brad Glenn hit a solo shot in the ninth. Glenn and Kevin Ahrens had two hits each.

Dunedin 7  Clearwater 4  - game 1

This was the continuation of a game that was rained out in the third inning and the rain came again in the seventh ending the game after six innings. Marco Grifantini pitched in the original game and again in this one but Tyler Ybarra got the last four outs for the win.

Andy Burns had two hits, Michael Crouse did too, including a home run from the original three innings. Rajai Davis tripled in the original game.

Dunedin at Clearwater  - game 2 - postponed

Game will be played Sunday as part of a doubleheader.

Lansing 3  West Michigan 0 - game 1

Ben White was outstanding, he pitched a complete game (7 inning) shutout. He did allow five hits. The offense was concentrated, Dwight Smith drove in the second and third runs. Chris Hawkins drove in the first run and scored the third. Hawkins and Smith had two hits each.

Lansing 2  West Michigan 0 - game 2

Kramer Champlin got the spot start in the doubleheader. Like the first game Smith was in the action. He singled and scored run number one when Christian Lopes singled him in. And Smith had a sac fly to score run two. Lopes and Pompey had two hits each.

Three Stars

#3 - Ben White

Nolin really needs to be moved to AAA.  He had one bad start in AA, the second after he came back down after that horrid start in the majors (5 ER in 5 IP) but otherwise his highest allowed is 2 earned runs with only his first start being under 5 IP.  He also had one 4 IP start last year in AA but all 3 starts then had 1 or 0 runs allowed.  So 9 AA starts and just one where he allowed 3+ ER, 2 where he didn't last 5 innings, both times because of pitch limits.

Of note: his one ML start he didn't have a single swing and miss - I didn't notice at the time but good ol' B-R has that for minor league and major league appearances now.  Just an amazing site.

yeah I agree nolin should move up....then again, he hasn't even thrown 50ip at AA yet so there's no real rush.

It will feel a whole lot better in a couple of months when our AAA rotation looks like this:

Romero
Hutchison
Drabek
Nolin
Stroman

Since his demotion, Mickey Storey has a line of 10.2IP 6H 4ER 3BB 15K in 6 appearances. Not too shabby.

Mickey's always had pretty great numbers. I guess the issue with him is his slow, flat fastball, which makes him very hittable at times.....or at least scares off MLB coaches from using him.

I liked the pickup and think he should always be in the mix for a callup.

AAA (23-27): 138.1ip, 10.1k/9, 2.6bb/9, 1.1hr/9, .315babip, 1.24whip, 3.51era, 3.35fip
MLB (26-27): 34.0ip, 10.3k/9, 2.9bb/9, 0.5hr/9, .337babip, 1.29whip, 4.24era, 2.62fip, 3.87xfip

On Mickey:

Shall he learn to pitch knuckleball ?

On Blanco:

Landon Powell has been released two or three days ago by the Mets. Could the Jays take a chance on Powell ? So 3 catchers: Powell, Blanco, and Nickeas or Ochinko in Buffalo; Ochinko and Murphy in New Hamsphire ? Or even Cole Armstrong + Powell + Nickeas in Buffalo, Blanco + Ochinko + Murphy in New Hamsphire ?

Osuna's back with a bang.

The 1st Lansing game had Norris only going 1.2 innings. Was that the completion of a suspended game or did something happen? He last started on the 3rd, so he should have gone today, no?

Norris came out of the game because of an injury. StivBators was watching on milb.tv and tweeted that Norris appeared to be feeling his hip. That is probably a 50% diagnosis at this stage.

Thank you, Gerry.

@StivBators is my twitter handle, I used to play in punk band, hence where all my handles come from. I also caught a bit of the Osuna game on milb.tv and he looked deadly. Pounded the zone, great changeup, the hitters really looked off balance. The announcers said he was hitting 96-97 but apparently the gun usually runs hot.

#2JB, did you catch that?  Mr. Ramone needs to be honoured...
