Thad Weber pitched seven no-hit innings and Buffalo went on to one hit Pawtucket. It was bad news everywhere else. Sean Nolin was hit by a batted ball in the first inning and the relievers were hit all over the park. Lansing had only two hits and lost. Saturday was the FSL all-star game. Many D Jays took part. Vancouver ouhit Tri-City 10-4 but lost.

Buffalo 2  Pawtucket 1

Thad Weber was outstanding, he pitched seven hitless innings, with one walk and 8 strikeouts. Buddy Carlyle followed Weber to preserve the no-hitter but he gave up a home run, Pawtucket's only hit.

Eugenio Velez scored both runs, one a solo home run and other on a throwing error as Velez stole third base. Mike McCoy had three hits.

Erie 16  New Hampshire 2

The third hitter of the game hit a line drive off Sean Nolin and Nolin had to be removed from the game. Matt Wright replaced Nolin and promptly gave up an RBI double and a two run home run. Wright went three more innings and gave up ten more runs, 13 in total. Erie ended the game with 24 hits.

New Hampshire had six hits, one of them was a home run by Clint Robinson.

Dunedin - All Star Break

Andy Burns started and went 0-2. Casey Lawrence, Tony Davis, Blake McFarland and Scott Copeland all pitched.

Bowling Green 5  Lansing 1

Lansing had more errors, 4, than hits, 2. Only two of Bowling Green's 5 runs were earned. Javier Avendano pitched five innings, he was charged with three runs, one earned.

Vancouver 3  Tri-City 4

Vancouver scored twice in the first inning, a double from Jason Leblebijian was the big hit. Kyle Anderson started for the Canadians and he was perfect through four innings. But in the fifth a lead-off walk and a couple of singles let Tri-City tie the game. Justin James took over for the sixth and he too walked the lead off hitter. A couple of hits later and Vancouver were down 4-2.

Vancouver had lots of early chances to score. The first two hitters reached in the second but were left on base. The Canadians loaded the bases with no outs in the third but couldn't score. They had a lead off single in the fourth, but nothing. The third run was a home run by Leblebijian who had three hits. Jordan Leyland also had three hits.

Nice bounce back by New Hampshire after getting clobbered yesterday. Up 12-0 in the 4th. Stroman pitching 1-hitter. It's too bad the only hitting prospects on the team are Pillar, A.J. Jimenez and maybe Kevin Nolan.

Jimenez is 4-for-4 in today's game so far, including 2 doubles. His batting average (in a small sample) is now at .474.

The Jays have fired eight amateur scouts. Most notable may be Joel Grampietro, who signed Drew Hutchison and Adam Lind among others that included Tyler Pastornicky, Brian Jeroloman, Kyle Ginley and Daniel Webb.

The other scouts fired were Cliff Pastornicky (Tyler's father), Mike Medici, Daniel Vaughan, Bobby Gandolfo, Dan Cox, Steve Miller and Michael Pesce.

That should read Darin Vaughan, not Daniel.

Stroman ended up with a very good outing today: 6 innings, 3 hits, 1 walk, 1 run, 5 strikeouts, 86 pitches with 56 strikes.

I've often observed in recent years during the draft the Jays have shied away from the Florida or Texas player. The vast majority of these guys scout those areas. There most certainly will be people shifted or hired to work these regions.

Can anyone clarify whether Juan Perez and Neil Wagner need to clear waivers to be sent to Buffalo. They must have cleared at the start of the season, so is it required again or are they exempt or the remainder of the season?

If memory serves, Wagner has options, but Perez does not. So to demote Perez, the Jays would have to expose him to waivers.

At present, Blue Jays are $604,100.00 under slot in their signings.

Signed are Murphy ($500,000.00 - $150,000.00 under slot); Smith ($350,000.00 - $96,100.00 under); Lietz ($200,000.00 - 135,000.00 under); Greene ($100,000.00 - $87,400 under); Custons ($1,000.00 - $135,000.00 under).

Yet to sign: Bickford, Hollon, Boyd, Graveman and Girodo. All are expected to sign (huge savings expected).

Thanks Richard. Boyd, Graveman & Gorado should sign as soon as their current season ends. We also have the 5% cushion.

It'll be interesting in a few years to see which method produced the better draft - skipping rounds 4-10 to sign a few high profile picks early on or drafting good but not great players in most slots and saving enough to have a bundle for picks 11-40.  Ideally it'll be 'both were good and produced a few 50 WAR players'  :)
