Very happy to see that Norris is starting out hot. I'm following his progress - I think he could be a good one.

Here is a brief recap of Keith Law's scouting notes re Aaron Sanchez the other day (more details on ESPN Insider):

- Raw stuff was as good as he's seen from him - plus FB (easy 94-96 with explosive late life), plus curve (mostly 80-81, very sharp with late bite), changeup a bit firm (average to fringe-average)

- His delivery hasn't changed much; it still involves a short stride and somewhat upright finish. It raises both injury concerns (a la Taijuan Walker) and command concerns. In the start Law saw Sanchez was more "around the plate" than filling up the strike zone. In summary: Sanchez had average command and average control. Law: "I can't project more on either unless he gets looser and smoother at release."

Although a small sample size, I'm very encouraged with these prospects so far: Dickie Thon Jr, Dwight Smith Jr, Aaron Sanchez, Daniel Norris, Albert Tirado, Mitch Nay, and DJ Davis.

Watching Thon Jr on TV vs. Michigan State, he looks to have a good hitting approach. He drove the ball well to RF and he has a decent eye at the plate. IF he can stay healthy, hopefully he can show us why he got 1st Round money.

I'm also expecting big things from Matt Dean. I'm not too sure why people are down on him. He was drafted in 2011 and would make him a draft eligible junior this season. When selected, he was in the same regards as Kris Bryant, who we selected the year before and couldn't sign. Chances are he would have been a 1st round pick this season so he's definitely ahead of the game at this point, starting the year at Lansing.

Random side note, how good would our prospect pool be had we signed Tyler Beede (although Stroman was the comp pick), Aaron Nola (projected top 10 pick this year), Andrew Chin (projected 2nd round pick) and Kris Bryant. Coulda Shoula Woulda... :(

(Probably) a small question, how does this organization fill up the rest of the higher minor league rosters (AAA and AA) with baseball veterans besides prospects and some particular players regarded important to roster in Toronto? Munenori Kawasaki is an example of the latter. When the Jays were looking for catching depth this past offseason, the abundance of Canadian catchers might have been overlooked. Other than being a Canadian, Nickeas' performance in the minors appears to be that of a minor leaguer who tries hard to get into the MLB but weak in comparison to that of other Canadians, say George Kottaras, now an Indians AAA player. So could the Jays traded away and for players to fill up the rest of AAA and AA roster with the available free agents ? For example, trade Nickeas to the Indians for Kottaras or Lars Davis from the Rockies ? Or sign Cole Armstrong who had a good 2011 AAA performance. Minor league contract with or w/o invitation to spring training does not appear to cost much in comparison to the MLB contracts.

our player development would have ruined all of them, so I wouldn't count that.
