Basically no pitching help coming from AA outside of Manoah I guess. Well, Kloffenstein is doing well (14 starts 2.84 ERA 3.9 BB/9 vs 10.23 K/9) but it appears not much else.

Being hopeful for much pitching help from the minors this 2nd half I consider optimistic for me. However anything can happen.

The following pitchers have spent enough time in the minors this year for me to consider them farm. Thornton, Hatch and Bowden have provided help so far but nothing crucial. I give Pearson a good grade. He is pitching well and is gaining confidence.

During next year if we need pitching we have a large quantity that are progressing well. A lot of relievers but few SPs. For SPs C Dallas, Kloff (fingers crossed that the high velo returns), Robberse. D Santos seems very confident but 2025 may be his ETA. There may also be a few surprises. I am expecting some disappointments which is the nature of pitching prospects.

Looks like two-hit Horwitz is up to his old tricks for Buffalo. I would be interested to see what he could do over an extended run in the majors, in the right ballpark. On the season he's hitting .301/.417/.394 -- an unusual slash line, especially for a first baseman.

His teammate Lukes is having an excellent season in a small sample (15 games): .362/.448/.586

I wonder if some team will poach one of these players at the deadline, hoping to unearth the next Harold Ramirez.

Dont look now, but the Jays may have developed an option for the rotation: Paxton Schultz

In case anyone is wondering Ryu is pitching in the FCL.
John Northey - Tuesday, July 04 2023 @ 05:26 PM EDT (#431054) #
Ryu did OK - 3 innings, 4 H 1 R 1 ER 0 BB 5 SO 2 groundouts, 0 flyouts

To me the big thing is 0 walks. He needs that control to succeed. I'm guessing he'll get another start up a level or two as they work his pitch count up. Sadly they don't list pitches thrown on MILB.com for the FCL.

More detail from the summary...
  • First batter pop out
  • Second K swinging
  • Third double
  • fourth double
  • fifth K swinging
  • Second Inning
  • Double, ground out to 3B, line out to LF, ground out 2B to 1B
  • Third Inning
  • Called out on strikes, Called out on strikes, single on ground ball to CF, called out on strikes
Seems he confused these low A hitters after a shaky first inning.

Orelvis's improved approach continues to pay off. In four PA tonight, he has walked three times. OPS up to 837.

Dejsus has 2B, 3B, and HR so far. He's really been raking recently and in a year when the prospects have looked mostly pretty bad, he's rocketing up the team prospect rankings. Still has issues obviously but not hard to see path to being a big leaguer.

DeJesus only the 3rd Jays farmhard with double digit HR's. Orelvis 17 and Schneider 15 the others.

Beginning to wonder if the Jays might promote Orelvis soon to AAA just to push him a bit since he seems to have figured out AA now.
