NOTES

Hyun Jin Ryu made a rehab start in Buffalo. He was generally very good, just three hits and one walk allowed. he had five K's. The one negative was that two of the hits were solo home runs. Yosver Zulueta pitched an inning and didn't walk anyone. Hagen Danner pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the save. That included retiring Syracuse's two big bats, Ronny Mauricio and Luke Voit.

Syracuse helped the Bisons offense to get going. The first run scored on an error, the second on a hit batter. Spencer Horwitz singled in the third, he ended the night 2-4. Otto Lopez doubled in the fourth run. Orelvis was 0-4 and is now 2-14 in AAA. On the positive side he has only struck out twice, but he hasn't walked in AAA yet. He is still getting used to the AAA pitchers.

For NH Chad Dallas had a stinker, six runs allowed in . It was his second stinker in a row, but he last pitched July 4th so that might have something to do with it. Dallas has made nine starts for NH. In five of them he has allowed one or zero runs. In the other four "stinkers" it has been five or six. I am not sure why but as the poem goes, when he is good he is really, really good and when he is bad he is horrid.

New Hampshire scored four runs in the ninth to tie the game before rain stopped play. It might have been due to the rain but those four runs came via two hit batters, two walks, catchers interference and a couple of hits. Steward Berroa was the hitting star, 4-4 with his 34th stolen base.

For Vancouver, Devonte Brown was 3-4, including his tenth home run. Michael Turconi had two hits. The C's used five pitchers in a bullpen game.

Brandon Barriera threw three perfect innings as he returned to the mound. Rafael Ohashi followed and allowed two runs. One of them scored on a balk and the other a steal of home.

Dunedin had five hits, Abiezel Ramirez and Jean Arnaez had two each which doesn't help the team bunch hits to score runs.

Ricky Tiedemann made a start in the FCL, just two innings, three K's, no hits or walks.

In the DSL top prospect there Enmanuel Bonilla went 5-6 with a double. That bumped his average 30 points up to .292.

I wonder if the Jays would consider trading Bonilla or Barriera. They are both very good prospects who probably shouldn't be traded, but the Jays are at or near the peak of their win curve. And Orelvis and Tiedemann may be needed during that win curve (in 2024-25).

Any prospect can be traded IMO.

The Jays and Washington have been trade partners in the past. Maybe Bonnila for one of J Wood, Brady House, Elijah Green or Robert Hassell III. All these players are young and need further development. This would definitely be a challenge trade!!

Gerry ... Did Bonilla also have 2 triples to go with his double and 2 singles ?

Indeed he did, I missed that.

What does anybody konw about David Guzman, also 17 & teammates with Bonilla.
Liking the plate discipline, and at least compared to playing time/ age/ rest of team overall batting line (but haven't really looked to see how that slugging does compared to league). Clearly the overage Perez is hitting the ball harder than 17 yr olds.

Guzman got the second highest bonus, after Bonilla, last year.

Horwitz on fire. Past nine games 17 for 34, 3 doubles, 5 HR's.  Had 2 HR on the season prior. Now has 7.

Horowiz' homer and 2 doubles today again came off a RHP. His OPS against RHP is probably over 1.000 as it was last year.

There's no spot for him now. They have tried him in LF.

Unfortunately, the Jays two AAA bats (Horwitz and Schneider) with the possibility of promotion suffer from the same problem. How do you get them in the lineup when neither can really play a defensive position at a major league level?

Schneider apparently would be serviceable in left-field.

Last year in Vancouver was the 1st time Schneider played LF since he was drafted in 2017. So yeah, he may not have looked competent.  I've seen him 5 times this year and he looked perfectly fine those games.  Yet, if the org thinks that's his future home. I would think he would be played more there than he has been.  So I have no idea what their plans are with him.

Leo Jimenez hit his 7th homer last night. You've got a fine-fielding shortstop who turned 22 in May who is hitting .290 with medium range pop and good plate control. If he can stay healthy for most of the season (his HBPs are down so the chances are better), that's an excellent prospect.
