NOTES

CJ Van Eyk is having a nice finish to his season. He pitched well on Thursday and now has a 2.76 ERA in four August appearances. He has 21 K's in 16.1 innings for the month. In this game he went five innings with just an unearned run on his record. He struck out seven on four hits, no walks. He mixed six pitches and used most of them equally. He got at least one whiff on each pitch and had eleven in total. FB peaked at 94 mph. He will be 27 next month and could be an option next year.

The Bisons had seven hits in the game and four of them came in the second inning when they scored all five of their runs. Jon Clase had the big hit, a three run home run, his sixth of the season.

Grant Rogers has been a very good pitcher for the Fisher Cats this season but he has now thrown two sinkers in a row. On Thursday Erie scored eight runs off Rogers in 4.1 innings.

NH scored two runs with five hits. Jackson Hornung hit his fifth home run, Charles McAdoo singled in the other run.

There was a lot going on in the Vancouver game:

Vancouver won 14-11 in eleven innings

Vancouver were outhit 17-11

But Vancouver had 17 walks

The game took 4 hours and 16 minutes

Vancouver had just one home run, a two run shot by Cutter Coffey who came off the IL for this game

Arjun Nimmala was hitless but walked four times

Vancouver had just nine RBI for 14 runs. Three of Vancouver's runs scored on wild pitches.

Vancouver tied the game in the ninth inning to send it to extra innings on a wild pitch

Silvano Hechavarria started and was charged with four runs on six hits in 5.1 innings

Landen Maroudis started for Dunedin and went two innings. He threw 53 pitches, 32 strikes and 21 balls. Maroudis did get nine whiffs on 25 swings which is pretty good. FB still averaged 91 mph with a high of 93. The best pitching came from Gilberto Batista who recorded eight outs, all via the strikeout. 49 of Batista's 65 pitches were four seam fastballs and he got 15 whiffs on 33 swings. All of this with a FB that averaged 92.8 mph. If you look at Batista's game logs you see this kind of performance around once per month. He is just 20 years old so it could be he needs consistency.

Dunedin had just four hits, Manuel Beltre hit his fifth home run.

Does anyone know why Coffey was removed from the game in the 6th?

I don't know why Coffey came out of the game but I would think it is the following. Coffey came off the IL on Wednesday. He played DH that day. Thursday was his first game in the field since his IL trip. Usually players are carefully brought back to play after an injury.

I went looking to see what Peyton Powell did to earn first star. He was 2/3 with 3 walks for Vancouver.
