The Blue Jays have purchased the contract of Shawn Hill from Triple-A Las Vegas and have recalled Robert Ray, as well.

Texas has officially traded Joaquin Arias for Jeff Francouer, receiving cash in the deal from the Mets (reportedly so that Texas pays Francouer what it would have paid Arias the rest of the way), and have designated outfielder Brandon Boggs for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster for Francouer. The Rangers have 10 days to trade Boggs, release him, or outright him to the minor leagues.

Any other rumblings this final-deadline-for-playoff-eligibility evening? Any interest in Boggs?

Reportedly, the Blue Jays have locked up Ricky Romero to a five-year contract extension that will be worth $30.1 million. It will cover all of Romero’s years of arbitration eligibility and his first year of free agency.

Jose Guillen, sporting a surprisingly robust slash line of .255/16/62, heads from Kansas City to San Francisco today, in exchange for a player to be named later and cash considerations. This is Guillen's TENTH big league home, which has to be at least close to a record of some sort. He not only switches teams and leagues, but also catapults from the um, not-contending Royals place of business to a real live Bayside pennant race. (SF trails the Padres by just 2.5 games and currently leads the NL Wild Card mess.)

The Seattle Mariners have fired manager Don Wakamatsu, pitching coach Rick Adair, and bench coach Ty Van Burkleo.

In case you are living under a rock, Brandon Morrow just finished a 1 hit, 2 walk, 1 error 17 strikeout complete game shut out. The single was a weak one that Aaron Hill had and lost, and came with 2 outs in the 9th. After a visit from Cito Morrow managed to strike out Dan Johnson to end the game, and then was assailed unmercifully with shaving cream pies.

It was also, according to Bill James Game Scores, the best start in Blue Jays history, narrowly edging out Roger Clemens. It also narrowly edged Roy Halladay's perfect game for game of the year using the same measure.

One of the greatest baseball players in the history of the Toronto Blue Jays franchise, having already taken a spin through the New York (NL) circuit, has opted to sign a minor league deal with the most successful MLB franchise of this decade (that's still weird to write), the Boston Red Sox. Delgado is set to report to Triple-A Pawtucket Sunday.
