An interesting race between Rivera and Hoffman.  Quality of team can help, but not by much historically (too good and not enough save opportunities due to bigger than 3 run lead, too bad and not enough leads period).  Both mainly one team guys (Hoffman played briefly in Florida in 1993)

Now at 469 for Hoffman, he has a 59 save lead, or 1 1/2 good years (40 saves being a good year, 50 a great one) while being almost exactly 2 years older (2 years, 1 1/2 months).  Both have exactly 55 blown saves at the moment which is kind of interesting.

Rivera has been better lately, but both have been the ideal closer for their teams.  The pressure to perform is higher in NY one would figure, but Rivera is a save god to many there thus won't be pulled from that slot easily.  Hoffman is gaining ground on Rivera this year so far (2 more saves).  2003 was where RIvera really gained ground as Hoffman was hurt and had 0 saves to Rivera's 40 that year, Rivera also gained 12 in '04 but before that it was more Hoffman than Rivera.

In the end it comes down to if Rivera will play to the same age as Hoffman does (ie: 2 more seasons).  If so then Rivera has a shot at the overall lead.  If not then Hoffman has it locked up.
