Griffey.  I don't even see him as a Red, just as a Mariner patrolling CF. 

Arod will be the greatest player when it is all said and done to wear the Mariner's uniform, and Martinez will be the best lifer as a  Mariner, but Griffey will be the one who just exemplifies the uniform to me.

Rodriguez only played 790 games as a Mariner. Griffey played more than 1500, Martinez more than 2000.

For me, it's Griffey by a glove over Martinez. Edgar really was a better hitter, and Griffey was an over rated defender. But he was a good centre fielder and as such has to beat out the designated hitter. And the kid could hit a little.

There are some mighty impressive peaks right there.  Griffey, A-Rod and Randy Johnson all were near the best at one point in the 90s in Seattle.  Edgar Martinez has one of the strangest career paths ever...

I went with Ichiro, he's one of the most unique talents I have ever seen. Griffey was obviously a great player as well.

oops, i'm sorry, i wasn't reading the list carefully enough...although Stormin' Gorman played for the Mariners at one point.

Well I'm not sure how to over rate someone who was a magnificent fielder when he was young and had the range and reach that he did. He perfected the art of literally climbing the outfield wall. I'm not sure how much opportunity eastern baseball fans had to regularly see Griffey patrol centre in his realy years.

Martinez was was felled by a poorly laid infield at BC Place Stadium. Running the bases during a spring training game, either against the Brewers or the Jays, he stumbled rounding second as i recal and tore up his knee. That was the end of his career at third.

When voting in all of these polls I have been voting for the player that was actually known for the uniform he wore. Hence a vote for Carew as a Twin and Salmon as a Angel.

This poll was tougher for me, but I did go for Griffey as Seattle was his team, he was the straw that stirred the team. I feel that Martinez was a very viable option and then Johnson followed by A-Rod.
