Astros fan here.  Don't want Washington to ever win, stealing the team from Montreal.  Cleveland shouldn't until they change their name and especially their logo to something less offensive.  Tampa needs a few years of near misses to make the title mean more, ala here in 1992 when after 3 division titles and 1987 we were ready to truely enjoy the thrill of finally making it.  Fans who go from nothing to getting it all would miss out on the fun of having their guts torn out a few times.

As to the Cubs, I like having one cursed team around and now that the two Sox teams have lost their curses we have to keep the Cubs curse going.

John, just curious -- and this is a real question -- do you similarly hope the Rangers and Twins don't win since they got their teams from Washington? Hey, New York "stole" the Yankees from Baltimore!

I'm somewhat disappointed that there is no Yankees option here. It's been almost a decade since they won and they've spent a billion trying.

You know a World Championship is elusive when even the Yankees can't grab one for trying.

Actually, the Washington/Montreal thing is more because I was a big fan of the Expos thus have a reason to boo Washington.  No strong opinion on other teams that moved as I wasn't a fan of them pre-move (given the last move was when I was 3 years old it would be hard to have a direct opinion).

Generally speaking I try to have a rooting interest (one way or the other) with all teams.  In no particular order and open to changes...
Cheer: Tampa (love ultimate underdogs), the Jays, Twins, Royals, the AL West, Cubs, Cincinatti, Houston, Arizona, Colorado, Padres
Boo: Yankees, Red Sox, Orioles, Tigers, Cleveland, Brewers (the entire old AL East - childhood booing rarely leaves you), White Sox (owner was part of '94 mess), Mets (NY connection), Marlins (bad ex-Expo owner), Atlanta (see Cleveland but at least they got rid of the mascot), Washington, St Louis (can't stand LaRussa),
Alternate depending on time of day: Phillies, Pittsburgh, Dodgers, Giants

Sometimes I enjoy those 4 at the bottom, sometimes I don't.  Depends on players and who they are playing really.  Used to cheer on St Louis during the Herzog days (love stolen bases) but things change.  Things like this add to my scoreboard watching and playoff enjoyment.  And of course I cheer on virtually all Canadian players, I just hope for some of their teams to lose but for the Canuck to do well.

Careful what you ask for, Geoff. I actually thought about including them, but realized there were eight franchises without a ring and the Cubs and Indians ... that filled up our 10 spaces available in the poll.

And I am relatively certain I'd be the only one to vote for them!

Now here's a challenge ... rank these teams in order of likelihood to be the next to win a title. I'd say CHC and MIL at the top, with TBR and TEX next, then the others in any order, really.

I voted for Cleveland because that city hasn't had a championship in such a long time. The team name was chosen by a Native American who suggested it BTW. I wouldn't mind if Philly won, too. I would have voted the Rangers next in this poll to see a new team make it (and not a newer expansion team like Florida, Arizona or Colorado). I think the most likely team is Tampa to make it IMO.

I voted Houston. There's a lot of deserving and/or underappreciated players to like there. Oswalt, Berkman, Ausmus, the justly appreciated but extremely deserving Tejada, and so on. They actively sought out hometown heroes Bourn and Backe, a big plus in my eyes. Plus, they've experienced recent WS disappointment, and they've moved to become 100% Roger free since. Furthermore, as a Jays fan, I can kind of sympathize with their fans' plight, hopelessly rooting for the forgotten team that finishes a tick above .500 every year. So, yeah, go Astros! Not that they have a prayer this year.

I am with John about Cleveland. Until they change their team name and logo they will always be my least favourite team in baseball.

I voted Texas... because why not?

I'm pretty sure this is just another baseball myth, like the alledged origins of the name of the World Series.  It's something they started saying after the team changed its name, but not actually true.

As I said a month ago when the Jays were at their frustrating nadir, Go Rangers!  I wasn't entirely serious, but they are the team that I would root for next.  A lot of likable guys like Young, Kinsler, and Laird.  The Hamilton story is second to none.  And they're first in the ML in runs scored.  Too bad they're also first in runs allowed, that won't get you far.  Interesting poll though, quite the varied response.
