I am finding it really hard to watch the playoff's with the sound on.
McCarver drives me nuts! Last night they throw on Pinella. I sample from Lou after they talked about some pitcher was worn down: "I noticed that this year with Tampa Bay after a lot of our young pitchers threw 180 innings they started to really struggle"
Gee Lou, how would you be able to tell - your team had an ERA of around 6 for the whole year!

A quick review of the Devil Rays stats shows only 1 pitcher threw 180 innings - Scott Kazmir - 186!
Given what Lou said I thought maybe a lot of Devil Rays came close to 180 IP but...
Kazmir - 186 IP & 21 yrs old - 0 or 1 run allowed in 4 of his last 5 games (4 runs in 5 2/3 IP in 2nd last start)
Hendrickson - 178 1/3 IP & 31 yrs old
Fossum - 162 2/3 IP & 27 yrs old (not exactly young)
Waechter - 157 IP & 24 yrs old - allowed 6 runs in each of his last 2 games
McClung - 109 1/3 IP & 24 yrs old & 8 shutout IP in final start
Nomo - old and bad
No one else was over 75 IP.
Maybe Waechter is all he could think about towards the end or something. In 2004 only Hendrickson cracked 130 IP, in 2003 only Zambrano qualified for the ERA title. So he couldn't have been basing his comment on the past.
Ah well. I thought maybe he was remembering the previous years or maybe the rooks did real bad late in the year but neither is the case. Guess we should hope Lou goes to the booth somewhere other than here or gets another managing job (again, somewhere other than here) as if that is what we can expect I'd rather not hear him talk. He knows a lot but just isn't ready to pass it along via the announcers booth.

Actually, someone wrote into Sportsnet and Jamie Campbell read that there are actually more White Sox fans than Cubs fans. Geographically, the Cubs hold more territory, but by numbers, White Sox win.

If that is the case, most White Sox fans must be very very poor because even with all their success this year, they were consistently drawing 10,000 less people than the Cubs. Not to mention that Cubs tickets are much more expensive and much more difficult to acquire.
Dr. Zarco would know more about this, but from my visit to Chicago, it was a predominantly a Cubs Town.

The Cubs are ALWAYS going to appear to have more support -- when ownership is tied into the city's largest radio station, which has the call letters WGN standing for "World's Greatest Newspaper" because it is, in turn, tied into the largest daily in the midwest, and who needs PR or even reality?

I voted LAA-HOU, and for the reason that I don't like any teams from Texas, and LAA won the Series in 2002 so I have no fond feelings for them.

In Chicago, in politics or sports or almost anything else, legality would have little to do with what happened. Trust me, this kind of thing is a daley occurrence.
