This is entirely a propos of nothing, but while I was doing research on Dave Parker for an article I'm writing for Baseball Primer, I came across a little gem written to commemorate the passing of Riverfront Stadium/Cinergy Field. Just a small collection of "great moments" and personalities from the Reds' time in the stadium, there are dozens of little reminders in here of the quirks and personalities that make baseball such a captivating pastime for all of us.

Enjoy.

There's actually a better article by the same writer here, which I didn't see the first time.

OT, but what happened to acquiring Griffin a week after the Arnold deal?

Craig, I'm grateful. Both pieces are gems, and with their stadium being demolished, the Big Red Machine deserves the accolades. To our readers who prefer all Blue Jays, all the time -- just kidding, Pistol -- please be patient with us when we digress. I admit to being a sentimental geezer who still pines for the pre-DH era, and I love the game, not just the local nine. Sparky's Reds were quite possibly the best team ever; I'm old, but didn't see the 1929-31 Philly A's.

Griffin's eventual arrival in Toronto still seems like more of a "when?" than an "if?", as several different reporters shared the information. Obviously, it won't count "officially" as part of the Lopez deal, but no matter how it's spun, it's likely to happen. That .542 OBP and .805 SLG in his junior year at Florida State is hard to ignore, and a healthy JFG could be very special as a pro.
