Like most Jays fans, I'm eagerly looking forward to reading Chasing Steinbrenner: Pursuing the Pennant in Boston and Toronto by Rob Bradford. Just in case you haven't heard, it's an account of the 2003 season, from the perspectives of Theo Epstein and J.P. Ricciardi. We've already published an excerpt, and an interview with the author. You'll also want to check out Craig Burley's review. Now we're delighted to announce a very special event for next Saturday, July 10.

Please join us at Tom Cheek's favourite establishment, Alice Fazooli's (294 Adelaide St. W. near John St.) for lunch at 1:30, followed by a Q & A and book signing with Rob. Then, it's off to the Dome for the Jays-Angels game at 4:00, which just might feature Kelvim Escobar on the mound. We have a large block of tickets reserved up in Cheer Club country, but we need to confirm numbers in advance with Group Sales and the restaurant, so RSVP ASAP.

Books will be available at lunch, for a special Bauxite price. The cost for the entire day is only $50 — that includes lunch, game ticket and the book. If you already own a copy, bring it along to be signed and pay just $23 for the meal and the seat. For those who have tickets already, it's $42 for lunch and the book. The menu includes an assortment of pizzas, veggies & dips, bruschetta, calamari and coffee. Taxes and tip are included in the above prices, and there will be a cash bar for other beverages. We have the patio, weather permitting, with the option of moving inside.

Bradford will also be at Indigo (Yonge and Eglinton) on Wednesday, July 7 at 7:00 p.m., so if you can't make it on July 10, but would still like to meet him, there's your chance. However, that won't be nearly as much fun as our party, so I hope you can join us.

Reserve your spot(s) now. Feel free to comment in this thread, but please send me an e-mail (COMN) to confirm. On behalf of everyone at Da Box, thanks very much to Rob for doing this with us; I know we're going to have a great time.

Terribly upset to miss this wonderful event, but I'll be at a tournament in Montreal that weekend with my team.

Thanks to the Cabal for arranging such a great opportunity for us. Have a great time, all!

First I get JP Ricciardi to sign my 'Moneyball' in Seattle, now Bradford in TO. If his luncheon talk is anything like his book, be prepared for a lot of digressions.

Isn't Tom Cheek paid to say he likes Alice Fazooli's?

Anyhow, I'll go. Food and game ticket for me only please.

I just got the book via barnes and noble, when local borders said it couldnt be found. Can't make the event, a bit of a drive from Colorado. What I have read it is from a Bostonian perspective and is totally pro JP (which I am not), but it looks like an excellent read.

I'll be there. This should be a blast!

Is the book available in Canada or do I have to go online to order it?

Miniumum age? No idea whether you guys have reservations about minors and the legal issues involved. I'm very well behaved, though. I'm 17

Tassle, it's a family restaurant. All of our young readers are invited. Family and friends who may not be quite as baseball-obsessed as some of us are also welcome.

Keith, I presume you're kidding, but Tom Cheek and Tom Altosaar (the GM at Fazooli's) are good friends, so I'm sure the endorsement is sincere, regardless of compensation. They really like "baseball people" there, and I'll vouch for the food and the atmosphere. I look forward to meeting many of you for the first time, and seeing old friends again.

LOL!

The 'Filecabinet' will be in Toronto this weekend and wants everyone to know that they will be in attendance.

Frank would like to know if he should bring some Bob File merchandise for all of his fans.
Named For Hank - Wednesday, June 30 2004 @ 01:33 PM EDT (#52732) #
Rob Bradford will surely appreciate the extra book sale. Look forward to meeting him.

What kind of File stuff would he be bringing?

Frank would like to know if he should bring some Bob File merchandise

Sure, and if Frank is coming to the luncheon, maybe he could invite Bob to join us for half an hour -- we're all Jays fans and would love to meet him. Getting to know File better would be great -- his determined comeback is a fascinating story. The only time we spoke, it was more about computer stuff than pitching or rehab, but Bob would be an interesting interview subject.

I regret that I won't be able to come, but I do encourage everyone going to be at Alice Fazooli's to indulge in my guilty pleasure (which I've had only a few times) -- fresh-baked bread, drizzled with warm oil and then covered in parmesan cheese. It's ridiculously delicious, and undoubtedly deadly. I love it.

I'm pretty sure it comes by default with entree purchases, and for a large group like this it should be a no-brainer.

Thanks to everyone who has already responded. There's still room at both the book signing and the game; some people can only make one or the other. If you're interested, RSVP to me by e-mail (COMN) as soon as possible.
_Indigo Books - Saturday, July 03 2004 @ 05:03 PM EDT (#52737) #
If you are looking for copies of the book, Indigo should have about 50 available for sale that evening. If you can't make it to the store (Wednesday at 7pm), hopefully you can make the Alice Fazooli's event.

Just heading out the door -- see you all there.

A quick note-who knows if anyone will read it-to thank you guys for the event today. I had a great time, and greatly enjoyed meeting some of the people whose work I've enjoyed so much over the past couple of years.
