Another hijack...read the final passage of today's PTP.

Can anyone confirm if it's true that Cat won't be a FA after this season? If so, I say offer him arbitration and keep him around. Given the youth of the options the Jays already have in house, Frank would easily be worth the risk of having to give him market value as determined in arb.

Since hijacking is the order of the day...Anyone else notice the Yankees' latest BIG move? ESPN reports they got Ruben Sierra for Marcus Thames (minor leaguer whose claim to fame is taking the Big Unit deep in his first AB).

I'm surprised this happened if I'm a Yankees fan, even though *penny-pincher* George Steinbrenner probably wasn't looking to break the bank, Sierra surely isn't a high impact player that's going to turn his club around in any dramatic fashion.

On the other hand, the Jays might have gotten something useful out of Sierra (provided his attitude problems aren't too severe). Sierra makes 600k and he's a left-handed bat with sporatic power off the bench.

In case anyone's interested -- and who wouldn't be when the topic is Ruben Sierra! -- I've posted a separate thread on it.

It's true, Cat will miss free agency by something like two days of service. Undoubtedly, this was a major consideration in signing him since no matter what kind of year he had, they could have either gotten him back cheap as a Stewart replacement or gotten draft pick compensation just by offering arbitration.

Draft picks only apply to players are eligible for free agency by reaching six+ years of service time.
