How's this for a blast from the past:

In the second Batter's Box instalment of WATN, we check in on the whereabouts of one of the most effective relievers in Blue Jays history. Mark Eichhorn, 43, will suit up for the semi-pro Salinas Packers, getting the opening-day nod next week. Now's your chance to share some memories (and send some well-wishes) for a savvy sidearmer who carved out quite a legacy in a Jays uniform.

Thanks Steve. It is certainly interesting reading about the players from the past. It would make a good weekly or monthly read. I don't know where you would find out all this. Jerry Howarth had a small booklet about a lot of the players from the past which was interesting.

Eichorn made a comeback with Syracuse just a few years ago. He was having a brilliant season and was on the verge of being called up when he suddenly retired again for personal reasons.

I remember Ike's comeback with Syracuse a few years ago. Watching him pitch against the Bisons in Buffalo it was amazing to see his lack of velocity but the above-average movement of his pitches. He was not throwing as "down-under" as his glory day with the jays (more sidearmed than submarnine, but he kept the ball law and was effective.

Oh yes, the Jerry Howarth "Where Are They Now" booklets by Benjamin Moore Paints. I remember Jesse Jefferson was driving a garbage truck, Rico Carty and Victor Cruz were unemployed, and Mike Barlow was coaching and working on his doctorate.

I initially regretted not contributing a better bio for Ike, but luckily George Watkins wrote a tremendous piece on Eichhorn for today's Californian.
