Batter's Box favourite Aaron "Named for Hank" Reynolds and his wife Vanessa were blessed with a baby boy early this morning. Further details will be forthcoming; the new parents have more important things to do right now.

I know I speak for all of us here at Batter's Box when I wish the entire Named for Hank family health and happiness for years to come.

Correction by Joe: Theodore was born late on the 23rd, not early on the 24th. An extra-early Christmas present!

So far there have been 51 major leaguers born on December 23rd, two hall-of-famers in Sam (Deacon) Leever and Jerry Koosman, and one manager (Doc Gessler). Could we have another big leaguer in training here?

Thanks, everybody. COMN for pictures, which will be updated pretty much every day.

Hey, I had Michael Jordan and Jim Brown. But did I become one of the greatest athletes who ever lived?

Not really. Must have been the Gene Pitney connection...

To the Reynolds family: Best wishes and hugs all round. 18 years ago my son was born on a stormy Nanaimo November night. Seems like yesterday. Hey, how about "Blizzard" for a name? My sister tells me Toronto was a tough drive yesterday. Hey, I know, I know, "Tony Fernandez Reynolds."
There you go!

Shucks, I thought you were going to have a poll to see what you should name the baby. For what it's worth I would have picked "Mookie".

Congratulations, Aaron & Vanessa!

Life's been in the way of posting as regularly as I sometime wish I could but being on vacation is a wonderful luxury so here it goes...

Before I was born (20 years, 26 days ago), my mom was planning a home birth with the help of midwives (it turns out one of which is now Coach's partner -- small world, eh?). At that same time, CBC's Fifth Estate happened to be looking to do a story on midwifery so they found my mom and began doing the taping of a segment that looked at the prenatal classes and other things of that nature. My mom was okay with it all but felt filming my birth would have been a little too intrusive so told them they could come back afterwords to check in on us.

Having roots as hippies, the cocept of naming a child seemed a little foreign to them. Their solution? Try different names on me to see what I reacted to best.

The day CBC came back to tape the follow-up, my parents were trying the name Adam. Not wanting to seem too off-the-wall, when asked what they'd named me, my parents responded, "Adam." After realizing the clip would be broadcast across the country, it seemed as though Adam had to stick -- and it has.

Again, Congratulations, Aaron.
_Useless Tyler - Friday, December 24 2004 @ 11:17 PM EST (#6685) #
My complete congratulations to the both of you - however the 16-year old in me can't help but feel sorry for the child who will likely suffer with the unneccesary concentration of present-giving within the late december time period.

Teach him to hate the Yankees and you'll have succeeded as a father. I had to learn it on my own! I was even a yankees FAN for a few years because my father never set me straight.

Ugh... the memories.

Some updates. Yes, I'm hanging out in the living room with little Theodore in the wee hours of the morning because he's a little fussy and mommy needs sleep.

First night: slept six hours.

Second night: well, he's asleep right now...

The good news is that he doesn't really cry. In fact, he's cried twice so far, the first (and loudest) time when he was born, and again yesterday when we took all his clothes off to check him out. However, he makes a plaintive little squeaking noise that makes both Vanessa and I react instantly. Tonight he seems to be sleeping but also making the squeak in his sleep.

COMN for more pictures.
