Ted Lilly and Scott Elarton? Maybe not. Ted Lilly and Jake Westbrook, ladies and gents. They crossed me up.

These are two seriously struggling pitchers, and while Westbrook had an excellent first inning, neither of them is looking like an All-Star.

But Lilly put his team into the bigger hole, and the Jays couldn't make it all the way back.

The good news: Alex Rios, finally, hit his second career homer.

I can't believe I missed Alex Rios hitting a homer. I missed his one last year, too.

Kudos to Rod Black for calling it.

Was it opposite field?

Yes indeed, a shot to right.

I missed the game (saw only the first half inning :-( ), and just checked the box score. I was very happy to see Alex in the home run column! It's good to get that 0 off the stat sheet.

So what happens to Lilly now? He looked horribly lost out there in the first inning.

It's obvious that missing spring training has affected him. What he needs is at least 2 weeks in the minors and then come back and take his place. However, who takes his slot? How is Justin Miller pitching (he is at Syracuse, correct?)

Another impressive evening for the bullpen but Schoewenweiss looked oh-so-hittable again; I hope he's not another Terry Adams. He reminds me of that though, with the outs he gets being very loud outs.

Hinske really hit one on the button in the 9th but right at the right fielder.

If Lilly gets sent to the minors doesn't he have to clear waivers?

I have a feeling the former all-star wouldn't be pleased to even entertain the offer of pitching in the minors.

Well they have to do something. Even Hentgen last year didn't look this bad. Or maybe he did. Still, if you're being compared to 2004 Hentgen, that's not good. Lilly's only decent game as I recall came in his very first game...a game against the Red Sox. But Lilly always dominates the Red Sox. Or so it seems.

Former All-Star my foot. The only reason he has that appellation is because of the rule that says every team has to send a representative, not because he was performing exceptionally well.

Lilly on the All Star team was borderline at best, but he was 10th in the AL in VORP among pitchers last year.

Did anyone listen to Wilner during the rain delay last night? I've never heard a bigger bunch of jackass callers in my life. They were ripping Lilly for declining a (hypothetical as far as I know) demotion to the minors. Even better, he tried to compare it to Halladay's demotion earlier in his career. One caller even suggested that he was done. Wilner made the excellent point that it seems unlikely that he's done at 29. Just a horror show of callers.
