Vancouver are in the playoff hunt and they walked off their playoff rivals on Saturday to get their magic number down to two with seven games left. They could clinch a playoff spot today. Elsewhere the affiliates all lost. Dunedin's lead in their playoff hunt dropped to a half game after a three day shortened game.

Buffalo 0 Worcester 9

Portland 6 New Hampshire 3

Vancouver 7 Spokane 6 - 10 innings

Dunedin 1 Tampa 3 - 5 innings

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

Another game with seven pitchers used by Buffalo. Nick Allgeyer took the loss but Matt Gage had the worst stats, four runs allowed.

The Bisons had just three hits, all singles. Gabriel Moreno and Spencer Horwitz sat this one out.

Sem Robberse is still getting used to AA. He was taken deep twice, allowed six runs on six hits, but only two runs were earned. All of this in 3.2 innings.

New Hampshire scored two in the first inning on a hit batter and a double play ball. It should have been more. The third run scored on an error. In total the Cats had just six hits, Zach Britton and Davis Schneider led the way with two.

Like Robberse, Dahian Santos has been adjusting to a higher level. When the first inning started with a walk and a double it looked like more trouble but Santos settled down to deliver a good start. Five innings, ten K's and just two runs allowed. Vancouver built a 6-2 lead but Eric Pardinho gave it all back in the eighth and sent the game to extra innings. A ground ball and a sac fly scored a run for the C's. In the bottom of the tenth Spokane bunted the runner to third. The next hitter hit a fly ball to right but Garrett Spain threw home and the runner was out in a rundown.

Damiano Palmegiani hit a three run home run, Gabriel Martinez had three hits. Dasan Brown had two hits and scored two runs.

Dunedin took three days to play 5.1 innings. Three of those inning swere thrown by Luis Severino and Zach Britton so a loss was not unexpected. John Kasevich had two doubles.

Three Stars

Third Star - Gabriel Martinez

Second Star - Dahian Santos

First Star - Damiano Palmegiani

A great minor league season for the Jays so far. Lots of promotions that have been earned.

2021 draft picks Juenger and Tiedemann have dominated their way up the minors.

The 2022 draft picks playing for Dunedin are a bit old but they are doing well.

I just realized there's a real chance nobody hits 10 HR in Buffalo this year. Luke's is at 9, Raynor was at 9 with thr Jays... and somebody else would have to run into doubling their season output in the last week or so.
Yikes.
Also it makes those pitching performances realllly questionable.
Definitely going to have to check later to see how things compare to league/ other seasons

<br>lowest team HR by 35, lowest slg by 18pts 3rd lowest OPS, 3rd lowest runs. Pretty solid average and OBP, though.
Did they change the dimensions for theJays in 2021?I seem to remember it being always a rough place to hit because the stadium was close to MLB size (and quality for many milb stadiums). L

Buffalo has the fewest home runs on the road in the IL with 34.  The team with the next lowest figure, Charlotte, has 42 and the median team in the IL has 79 homers.  There has been a severe power shortage in Buffalo.  On the other hand, Buffalo has the third highest OBP in the league on the road at .347.  A lot of it is just the character of the club, with players like Lopez and Moreno.

The system is short on power period (outside of Martinez). Frankly, the state of the system’s position player prospects at Vancouver and above is pretty bleak.

Of course part of that is guys reaching young. Vlad, Bo, and Kirk are all sub 25 this season. Adley Rutschman the hot rookie with Baltimore is 24, 7 days younger than Bo. Yeah, no question the Jays need more hitting prospects but where would they play? OF and 3B are all that will have openings anytime soon (post 2023). So I see it as a nice to have but not critical right now. Need to start building at A and lower now though to find the next Vlad or Bo.

Nate Pearson threw an inning as the opener in a rehab outing (his first in 10 weeks) for Dunedin today.

Yosver Zulueta also threw an inning for New Hampshire today. It was his first game in just over a month.

Nigel, I think you’re sleeping on Addison Barger.

Regardless the position player ranks looks to be restricted a year from now with the extra picks from the last draft. Cade Doughty was a favourite of mine from the draft and he had a good debut. Add in Toman, Kasevich and Rodon and things can turn around quickly.

Fair enough re: Barger. I didn’t think much of him in Vancouver but I only got to see him a handful of games and he’s certainly had a really good year.

Another big win at Christie Pits today, Leafs are up 2-0 in the best of 5 semis. Marcus Knecht went 4/5 with 3 HRs.

It will be interesting if Pearson or Zuletta get a chance to add the velocity in the pen it seemingly needs this year. However in all honesty it has been effectively stabilized with Bass and improvements from its original core.
