A certain Roster member requested photos of Nick Johnson while I was down in the camera bay for Jays vs. Nationals on the weekend, so here's the first of many, conveniently desktop-sized:

This was in the final innings of the game, probably the bottom of the seventh or eighth on Saturday, just as the sun began to dip and turn everything golden. For those keeping track of the technology involved, this shot was identical in setup to the one of Catalanotto from yesterday; the difference in grain is because of the difference in the quality of light, which is much better here.

The Yankees ought to regret dumping Nick for a long, long time. For one thing, as well as Tino has played this year, Johnson has been just as good, costs half as much, and is 11 years younger. Plus, he just looks like a Yankee. Looks like the most famous Yankee of them all, with that moon face of his. Getting rid of such a man... bad karma.

Another great shot, Aaron. Those outfield scoreboards make for intersting background. I like Nick because he looks like such a throwback... and as anybody who's had him on a Roto team can attest, the number of walks he draws is just ridiculous.

Plus, he just looks like a Yankee.

And like Tino, he will be again, sir. I am quite confident in that.

I was hesitant with NFH putting up a non-Jays picture when we were going for a sweep against the World Champions. Apparently Picture of the Day mojo isn't necessary against the Red Sox.

I wanted to prove that they could do it all on their own. You know, in case I go on holiday or something. ;)

Have you checked out Javier Vazquez lately? 5-3, 3.49 for Arizona with an amazing 63/8 K/BB ratio. After allowing 17 earned runs in his first 13 innings, he's given up just 9 in his last 54 (admittedly, against some fairly soft competition). He hasn't walked a batter since April 25.

The Johnson the Yankees traded to get Vazquez (Nick) sits at .311/.422/.503 for Washington. The Johnson they traded Vazquez away to get (Randy) is 4-3, 3.94, 13 years older than Vazquez, and has not looked like the all-world pitcher he was last year. The season's far from over, but lately the Yankees seem to be catching the troughs, not the waves, in their player transactions.
