I've said it before: Gregg Zaun's career turnaround has the makings of a great and inspirational book or movie. I know that if he decided to write (or co-write, as is often the case) The Gregg Zaun Story, I would be there on the first day of sale to buy a copy.

Here's a thousand words for it:

I would have to see him rocking out to "Okay Blue Jays" singing O Canada in french, and blocking home plate like it's going out of style.

Another good question is... who would you want to play him in the film adaptation?

My choice is Sean Penn. Tough and gifted, the only difference is the Zaun is unfailingly polite with the media.

I think Sean Penn is already booked for The Josh Towers Story. Get a big enough budget, and Russell Crowe's your man. All Crowe's doing these days is biopics, apparently, so he's in the right head space.

Crowe would absolutely nail the "throwing the catchers mask" scene.

I never would have thought of Russell Crowe... but I have to say, that's some brilliant casting.

Slash can appear as himself.

A younger Liam Neeson would have been good too, but I agree that Russell Crowe's your man. Zaun as the Gladiator works for me.

Crowe would absolutely nail the "throwing the catchers mask" scene.

And Sean Penn wouldn't?

Still, I can see Sean as Josh and Chris Penn as Hinske.

Ving Rhames as Vernon?

Axel Rose.

The movie could not be made without the "sliding on the knees, catching the foul-fly and giving Gibbons the high 5" moment. Absolutely the perfect picture of the Zaun spirit. Anybody seen this shot anywhere? I'd love to have a copy of it.

I have a recording of that game, Heather, but I've already promised it to Craig Burley. I've watched that play a dozen times.

Picture rocks. Zaunie slugs a double, top of the first, clearing the loaded bases. How was Orlando to know?

Sean Penn is physically unable to smile, so that'd cause some problems - I've seen Zaun smile at least a few times.

Now Charlie Sheen, he could do that.

As for scenes - didn't Zaun hit a grand slam at the Dome early in the season?

I just remember this one moment personally where the cheer club were cheering "Going, Going, Zaun", and on "Zaun" we heard the crack of the bat, and 'twas for the first time actually going, going, and Zaun.

I'm okay with any of these choices, provided that Philip Michael Thomas circa 1985 plays Miguel Batista.

Anybody else been watching the first season of Miami Vice on DVD?
Named For Hank - Thursday, August 04 2005 @ 12:50 PM EDT (#124664) #
Did Miami Vice finally come out? I thought that they were getting slaughtered by music rights issues and weren't going to issue the DVDs because they would have to replace 75% of the music.

Miami Vice without the music would suck.

...and in a crazy coincidence, I stuck Jan Hammer's Escape From Television into the CD player yesterday. It's all incidental score music from Miami Vice.

The first season did finally come out this spring, and the music is all there. It's top-drawer stuff.

Who is the Marlins' VP, and how did rate his own TV show?
