Well, they hit a couple of homers off Dave Bush. So Brandon League came in and they hit even more homers off him.

Nothing helped. We invoked rock stars and philosophers, and the spirit of everything that has ever troubled Detroit.

It was not to be.

No worries, two out of three. Bush may be the major disappointment of the active roster this year. Bring up the reinforcements.

Ooh, I wish I'd been there ... I've almost been mugged in Detroit myself and had a crazy street guy follow me yelling at me about the Tigers game (and this was in Greektown, not near the stadium). And was in an auto accident there. And ...

Oh, never mind. Detroit Mock City.

Well titled.

I did a bit of research myself and found that when Bush and League appeared in the same game, they are 0-3.

In those three games, in a combined 15 2/3IP, they have given up a total of 21 ER, 8HR, and 38 baserunners, giving them a 2.42 WHIP and a 14.28 ERA.

Bush-League... Coincidence or Bad Omen

Maybe John Gibbons is better off not putting those two in the same game one after another.

I think Bush's future is in the bullpen -- he was made a starter to increase his value, but he just isn't good enough. Even before he came up, it was argued that it is better to have a very good reliever than an average starter. And, perhaps throwing fewer innings and having more regular work will increase the velocity of his fastball, and sharpen his command since he only needs the fastball/slider. More importantly, if bush does well in this role, perhaps some money could be saved next season by trading batista, and making bush the closer.

It seems like Josh Banks, in AA, did well in his last couple of starts, and finally figured out a way to keep the ball in the park. If I would try to win as many games, sending league to start for syracuse and calling up banks might be a good idea.

It seems to me the worst place for Bush would be in the bullpen.

Wern't we all gushing over the prospects of a '06 bullpen with Bush as a solid #4 after his strong comeback from Syracuse? Are we giving up on him so quick?

Halladay had his share of rough outings, especially early in his career. One must not expect too much of young pitchers that are still trying to figure things out at the major league level. I've seen enough good things from League, Bush and McGowan to believe that they are more than likely to have pretty good major league careers ahead of them if the Jays have a bit of patience.

My heart is whole. The wind was blowing out to center stiffly. Bush gave up 2 solo homers and 2 unearned runs. He's a fine pitcher. Patience.
