In a continuing effort to assemble the perfect All-City baseball team (after Bauxites were challenged to try all-state, all-province or all-country ... the showoff!), longtime Batter's Box contributor Craig Burley realized his recent Mobile Homeboys, even with five Hall of Famers, might struggle in the Mean Streets of Flatbush.

You could put together a heck of a team from Brooklyn, even though there's only one all-time great [presumably Koufax, though there are four Hall of Famers on the roster -- ed.] on the team. The team is weakish in the OF, but very strong in the infield and in starting pitchers. Halama must stay on the team only because he has the greatest BB-Ref sponsor message of all time ...

So, then, Bauxites ... can you brook this team any better? Or do we need to fall back on a Brook-Lyn combination, even though catcher Fordyce is from Connecticut and infielder Lary is from California?

Wee Willie Keeler would help the outfield. Richie Zisk would arguably be an improvement on Curt Blefary at DH.

The link certainly does NOT go to Halama's BBref page.

Kudos to the author!

Keeler! Darn it, and to think that when I started off making the team, I already had Keeler pencilled into an outfield slot. I guess I left him out in between drafts. Thanks Mike!

Doing these teams with cities (or boroughs, in this case) is much more fun than with states; trying to scramble to fit players in is more interesting.

Cut and paste error, my fault entirely. This has been fixed!

Lets see. Italians...big check. Irish...check. African-americans...check. Jew...check. Where are the polish players? Do I misunderstand Brooklyn's ethnic mix?

Two Jews actually, Gerry, unless I'm massively misinformed about Sid Gordon's ancestry.

Going through the list of players born in New York state looking for Polish names, I noted a lot of Polish (or generally Slavic) names from upstate - Syracuse, Niagara Falls and Buffalo in particular. Just huge numbers of Polish-sounding players from Buffalo in particular.
