Lansing picked up the only win in the organization Sunday behind Adrian Martin and some early runs.  Ty Taubenheim pitched well in a loss.  Eric Nielsen and Chris Gutierrez each had three hits.

Syracuse 0 Rochester 1

Box Score

Ty Taubenheim gave up a home run to Luis Maza in the third inning and that was all Rochester needed to beat Syracuse.  Taubenheim pitched six innings allowing six hits and the one run, he walked no-one and struck out four.

Ex-Jay Pete Munro and three relievers limited the Chiefs to four hits, three of them in the first two innings.  Ryan Roberts and Rob Cosby reached base twice as each had a hit and a walk.  Dustin McGowan pitched the last two innings allowing one hit while recording three strikeouts.

New Hampshire 4  New Britain 5

Box Score

Too little too late for the Fisher Cats as they scored twice in the ninth to make it close.  Kyle Yates gave up six hits and five runs in five innings to take the loss.  In the first a single, a stolen base, an out and a sac fly gave New Britain the lead.  In the third three singles, a hit batter and a stolen base scored two more and in the fifth a walk, a single, a wild pitch a stolen base and a ground out scored another. New Britain scored the winning run in the seventh off Tracy ThorpeThorpe walked the bases loaded, got a force-out at home, then walked in a run before getting the hook.

The Cats scored a run in the third when Manny Mayorson doubled home Miguel Negron and another in the fifth when Carlo Cota doubled home Eric Kratz.  Trailing by three in the ninth Kratz doubled and scored on a Hassey single.  Hassey later scored on a David Smith single but that was it for the Fisher Cats.

Mayorson, Smith and Kratz had two hits each.

Clearwater 7 Dunedin 2

Box Score

This game was tight until the seventh inning.  Through six innings Clearwater led 1-0 with a run in the fifth off Dunedin starter Brian Wolfe.  Wolfe was acquired over the winter in the Koskie deal.  Clearwater had scored one run on five hits through six innings and manager Omar Malave sent Wolfe back out for the seventh.  The Phillies scored a run on three singles and a hit batter when Wolfe was pulled.  Brad Mumma gave up another single and then a grand slam to put the game out of reach.

Dunedin scored two consolation runs in the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Klosterman doubled home Eric Nielsen and Christian Snavely who had singled.  Nielsen went 3-4 and Juan Peralta 2-4.

Lansing 7 Southwest Michigan 2

Box Score

Having been held at bay by the same team on Saturday Lansing exacted revenge yesterday scoring five runs in the second inning.  The five runs came through six hits, Yuber Rodriguez had a triple, Brian Pettway and Chris Gutierrez doubled, and Joey Metropoulos, Jesus Gonzalez and Josh Bell singled.  Lansing added their sixth run in the third when Metropoulos and Pettway led off with singles.

Adrian Martin went seven innings for the win giving up the two runs on six hits.  Martin had no K's and had a 14-7 GB-FB ratio.

Gutierrez had 3 hits, Metropoulos, Pettway and Rodriguez had two each.  It's very early but Yuber is hitting .364.

Po-Hsuan Keng threw 2 more scoreless innings for the Lugnuts.  That makes 5. The development of Keng and countryman Chi-Hung Cheng will be an early season focus.

David Purcey makes his triple A debut tonight as the Sky Chiefs host Louisville and old friend Chris Michalak.  New Hampshire and Mike MacDonald visit Connecticut.  The D'Jays and Orlando Trias host the Lakeland Tigers, while the Lugnuts and Aaron Wideman take a road trip to Dayton.

New Hampshire and Mike MacDonald visit Connecticut

This was confusing for me as NH played New Britain (CT) last week.  Turns out the Norwich Navigators changed their name to the Connecticut Defenders this year, which seems odd to be able to do since there's still another CT team in the state.  Of course I suppose that's like the Florida Marlins with Tampa Bay in the state as well.

If Trias is going in Dunedin tonight then there must be something wrong with Ricky Romero as he's not had a turn in the rotation.

The whole bullpen has been great in Lansing through the first four games.  Tressler got hung with a tough loss on Saturday, but the bats were silent.

With the lack of production in Dunedin and the fact that Lansing has been pretty good with the situational hitting through the middle of the order, how long will it be before we see our first roster moves between the two clubs?

The New Britain Rock Cats are furious that the Navigators changed their name to the Connecicut Defenders. What a joke.

The new uniforms, new scoreboard, new club house store, and new paint don't hide the fact that they are still out on the middle of nowhere, and with gas at nearly $3 a gallon, it will be more difficult now to draw fans out there.

I'm excited for Purcey's start tonight. Hopefully I can get the live feed working.

Perhaps someone can help me out: When I try to play the feed, a pop up appears and says that it cannot create directshow player. Can I fix this? Can I get one?

Hopefully there is nothing wrong with Rickey. Is this the forth of fifth game for the baby Jays?

Anyone have an update on the Vince Perkins situation? Did he clear waivers? Has he been assigned anywhere?

Mike Green - Monday, April 10 2006 @ 11:13 AM EDT (#144818) #
This is the fifth game of the season for Dunedin.  I haven't heard anything about Ricky Romero, but there is no local radio or newspaper coverage of the Baby Jays so news often filters out slowly.

Perkins was released on the first I believe. It is now the tenth.  Counting the first of April as the first day he could be claimed, today (the tenth) should be the last day he can be claimed.

Does anyone know who the 5th starter is for the Fisher Cats? At the outset of the season, I would have thought it was Kurt Isenberg, but then he pitched out of the pen in the opener. Thoughts?
Mike Green - Monday, April 10 2006 @ 12:33 PM EDT (#144829) #
There do not seem to be options other than Isenberg that I can see.  Pitching in relief on opening day (after many days off) is probably a good idea for a 5th starter.  The likelihood of rain between the 1st and 5th games in the Eastern League is very high, and so the idea of ensuring that the 5th starter hasn't had 10 or 11 days off is a good one.

Isenberg pitched 2 innings in relief opening day for the Fisher Cats, but he is the man slotted into the 5th spot of the Fisher Cats rotation. He will be pitching tomorrow evening in Norwich.

David Purcey tonight - 6 innings, one hit, one unearned run, four walks, three K's.

Two of the walks came after errors on the first two hitters led to the unearned run.

Mike Green - Monday, April 10 2006 @ 08:07 PM EDT (#144867) #

Lansing leads 5-0 in the third, as Patton and Bell have homered.  Dunedin and New Hampshire are tied in their games.

Purcey was going deep into counts (thank you, Gameday, for the pitch-by-pitch), but was able to get the ground ball when he needed it.  There were 3 DPs behind him.
