You'd think an All-Reggie Hall of Names team would be filled with colorful and talented players like that most famous of Reggies, Mr. Reginald Martinez Jackson.

And you'd be wrong.

Actually, you can put together about half of a pitching staff and a heck of an All-Star outfield, but the rest of the roster is quite ... well, just pick the adjective most similar to "barren" you like best.

Okay, you back? Then it's time to take a bite out of ...

THE REGGIE BARS

1B/DH Reggie J. Sanders (.273/3/10 for 1974 DET)
A whole host of rather ordinary outfielders are the remainder of baseball's Reggies; they are not included here as they'd be unlikely to play much with the nearly 1200-homer starting outfield in their way.

ROTATION
RHP Reggie Cleveland (105-106, 1969-81; 203 starts, 428 games)
RHP Reggie Patterson (4-4, 1981, '83-85 Cubs; nine starts in 22 games)
RHP Reggie Grabowski (4-8, 1932-34 Phillies; 12 starts, 51 games)
RHP Reggie Richter (1-3 in 22 games, 5 starts with 1911 CHC)

BULLPEN
CL-RH Phil Regan* (96-81, 92 saves in 13 years)
LHRP Regis Leheny (2.2 IP for 1932 BOS)
RHRP Reggie Harris (2-3, six years, 1990-99)
RHRP Nick Regilio (1-6 with 2005-06 TEX)
RHRP Reggie Ritter (1-1, 1986-87 Indians)

Nobody named Reggie has ever played even an inning of big league ball at 2B, SS or 3B, so unless our first baseman has Otero-worldly range, that will be a problem ... We need to expand the team by allowing middle-named Reginalds to get a manager; Phil Regan would be a decent alternative -- but he's already the team's best pitcher and closer -- as we expand the rules even further, to include the seven big leaguers whose last/family name started with the character string "Reg" ... That also helps us with the infield and pitching situations a bit, and even provides a backup catcher ... To get a lefty, any lefty -- even a cuppajoe guy from the 1930s -- we have to expand the rules to include baseball's only "Regis" ...

All three Reggies who have made All-Star teams are outfielders, including the aforementioned Mr. Jackson; in fact, some time in the next month or so, Reggie Sanders will hit his eighth home run of the year and make it three 300-career-homer guys in that outfield ... There have actually been two Sanderses named Reggie, as well as two Reggie Williams ... Also two guys named Reginald Smith, one you know who went by "Reggie," the other "Rex" who made one start for the 1886 Philadelphia A's and gave up 15 hits and 13 runs -- in a complete game loss ... Come to think of it, that makes Rex the leading candidate for this team's fifth starter slot ... Any suggestions on reasonable ways we can expand the search criteria to expand the roster? Maybe even find, you know, a shortstop?
