Vancouver Canadians
The Vancouver Canadians lost 5-4 Friday to the Tri-City Dust Devils at Nat Bailey Stadium.
Vancouver had a 2-1 lead after six innings, but the Dust Devils scored two in each half of the seventh and eighth innings, while the Canadians could only muster a run in each of their halves of those innings.
With the loss, Vancouver is 1/2 a game back of the Eugene Emeralds for first in the Northwest League Standings based on their second-half record. The Canadians sit fifth out of six teams for the season overall, at 52-60.
The series continues tonight at the Nat. First pitch is at 5:05 pm PDT. Dasan Hill (0-0, 9.00 ERA) will start for the Canadians.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats
Danny Thompson Jr pitched a gem for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, but it was a walk-off home run surrendered by Gage Stanifer in the ninth that allowed the Somerset Patriots to win on Friday.
Gage Stanifer didn’t allow a run in the eighth before surrendering the homer in the ninth and thus blowing his first save opportunity at Double-A.
Thompson Jr threw six innings, striking out five and allowing two runs on one hit. Thompson has struck out 19 across his last three starts.
Catcher Aaron Parker is now batting .344 in August with two more hits in this one while Dub Gleed singled and got on base twice. He has 15 hits in 12 games.
New Hampshire and Somerset play again today starting at 6:35 PM ET. Johnny King (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will start for the Fisher Cats.
Dunedin Blue Jays
The Dunedin Blue Jays couldn’t dig themselves out of a five-run hole on Friday and lost 7-4 to the Tampa Tarpons.
Tampa struck for four in the first thanks to a Wilberson De Pena two-run home run that got them on the scoreboard.
Jake Bennett homered for the third time in his last two games in the fifth, but Dunedin was already down 5-0 at that point. He was 1-for-4 with the home run and two RBI.
Dunedin and Tampa play today at 6:30 pm ET. Dunedin’s starter has not been announced.
Buffalo Bisons
The Buffalo Bisons beat the Worcester Red Sox 6-2 on Friday thanks to some timely hitting and a strong outing from Pat Gallagher.
Gallagher allowed one hit and a walk in four innings and struck out six.
Yohendrick Ponango had three hits, including a two-run homer in this contest.
Sean Keys hit a solo homer in the seventh and doubled in the third while the Iowa Meat Truck, Peyton Williams, got his first RBI at Triple-A on a double to right-center.
Buffalo and Worcester play again today at 4:05 pm ET. CJ Van Eyk gets the start for Buffalo (5-3, 3.63 ERA).
