NOTES
Buffalo ran up a 9-0 lead in the fourth before cruising to the win. Two home runs were part of the nine runs. Carlos Mendoza hit a two run homer in the second and Davis Schneider a three run blast in the fourth. Mendoza also doubled in two more runs for a four RBI game. Ismael Munguia drove in two runs on an infield fly. With the bases loaded the third baseman dropped a fly ball and in the process knocked it away from him letting two runs score. It probably should have been an error. Mendoza ended with four hits, Munguia and Josh Kasevich three each.
Spencer Arrighetti started, did fine for three innings, but gave up a couple of runs in the fourth and his day was done. CJ Van Eyk followed, threw 4.1 innings with three runs allowed.
The rosters expand in two weeks and there is some competition over which position player gets called up. DazAmeron is trying to prove himself now. Davis Schneider, Yohendrick Pinango and Sean Keys have all spent time with the Jays and should be in the mix. I also wonder if the Jays ever want to take a look at Josh Kasevich, probably not in a wild card race.
Jackson Wentworth went five innings and only struck out one hitter for NH. But he held Somerset to three hits and just one run.
Victor Arias and Alexis Hernandez were in the middle of the action on Sunday. Arias led off the game with a single stole second and scored on an error. Later in that inning Hernandez drove in a run with a ground out. In the fourth Hernandez led off with a double. Mathieu Vallee singled him to third, then Arias doubled with both runs scoring. Hernandez singled again in the sixth and scored when Hedbert Perez doubled. The C's added two in the ninth thanks to two errors by Somerset. Carter Cunningham also had two hits.
Vancouver scored one run in the seventh to tie their game and two in the eighth to go ahead. In the seventh Max Viera led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly. In the eighth with a walk and a hit batter on base, Viera tripled again to drive in both runs. Viera was the only hitter with two hits. Jojo Parker was 1-3 and walked.
Austin Smith was a two way player in Dunedin to start the season. Its probably fair to say that he wasn't great at either. At the end of JUly he was promoted to Vancouver and told he would be only a hitter. And now its working. In 12 games he is hitting .349 and he only struck out three times in 43 at bats. He has four doubles and two home runs in the 12 games.
Troy Guthrie started and only gave up one run in five innings.
It wasn't the first time this week that the Tampa Yankees/Tarpons took the Jays pitchers to the woodshed. The Jays gave up 18 runs but Brandon Barriera did not allow one of them. He struck out five over three shutout innings. From there it got ugly.
The Jays had eleven hits. Aldo Gaxiola and Owen Carapelotti hit back to back home runs in the fourth inning. Gaxiola has 12 home runs but also strikes out 30% of the time and doesn't walk a whole lot. Jake Cook singled and tripled. Dameury Pena had two doubles.
