Notes

Rudy Martin Jr., Sean Keys and Nick Goodwin led the Herd's hit parade with three apiece. Keys launched a three-run homer in the first inning to put the Bisons ahead to stay, Goodwin doubled twice and Martin had an RBI single and a stolen base. All nine starters got on base, with eight of them getting a hit. Yohendrick Piñango had a double, a sacrifice fly and threw out a runner at second base. Josh Kasevich was 1-for-5 with an RBI. Grant Rogers got the win with five innings of three-run ball on seven hits, one walk and one hit by pitch. He struck out three and split his outs in play evenly on the ground and in the air. Ricky Tiedemann gave up a run on two hits and struck out two. Chad Dallas followed with 1⅔ scoreless stanzas, offsetting a hit and a walk with a pair of Ks.

Mason Olson was obliterated for nine runs (eight earned) and only recorded four outs. The damage was done on seven hits, two of them home runs. Alex Amalfi allowed two more longballs leading to three runs over 3⅓ innings. Jonathan Todd stranded a runner and pitched 1⅓ shutout innings of one-hit ball. Gage Stanifer worked around a hit and two walks to put up two goose eggs and struck out three. Dub Gleed had the only two-hit game. Tucker Toman singled and walked twice. Victor Arias, Aaron Parker and Carter Cunningham had the other base hits.

Troy Guthrie gave up no runs and no hits in five innings for the C's on Tuesday.

An RBI single by Edward Duran in the seventh inning snapped a scoreless tie for Monty's Mounties. Gable Mitchell had a sac fly in the eighth to score a JoJo Parker single, his first in the Northwest League. Parker had stolen second base and showed good anticipation to advance to third base on a wild pitch that was not that far in front of the catcher. Duran and Jaxson West had two-hit nights and Duran also threw out a runner at second. Maddox Latta singled and walked and Austin Smith had a base knock. Ty Southisene was 0-for-4. Troy Guthrie walked three batters over five no-hit frames, striking out two. Gilberto Batista was the winning pitcher by scattering four hits and striking out two over three shutout innings. Reece Wissinger locked it down for the save, striking out one to offset a one-hit ninth.

Dameury Pena went 3-for-4 with an RBI single that drove in what proved to be the winning run. He scored three times and stole a base. Ryan Cooney belted his first professional home run and drew a walk. Giaconino Lasaracina had a two-run single, a walk and three RBI. Ryan Franden had an RBI single to open the scoring. Blaine Bullard singled, walked and stole his 34th base. Jake Cook had a walk. Lenyn Sosa had an RBI double in two at-bats. Aldo Gaxiola pinch-ran and scored a runner and later added a single. Brandon Barriera was dominant with six punchouts over four no-hit innings, facing just one batter above the minimum. He kept the ball down with five outs on the ground and just one in the air. Brayden Heidel was the winning pitcher by also tossing a no-hitter over three frames, but he gave up a run on three walks while whiffing three. He had four of his six outs in play on the dirt. Nathan Higgins gave up two runs in an inning but fanned two. Gavin Seebold struck out the side in a perfect ninth.

In the Dominican, Michael Mesa had the lone two hits and singled home a run. Celwin Hurkmans was one out short of five innings but only gave up two runs in 4⅔s on four hits and a walk. He struck out one but got eight outs on the ground. Manny Parra took the loss after being charged with six runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Any Canadians watchers have thoughts or info on Troy Guthrie? His numbers seem pedestrian, low K, low BB type, but he's a 20 yr old in High A.

Low 90s fastball but good control.

Troy Guthrie has 5 pitches. 4 seam FB, Curve, cutter, slider and change. His FB is in the low 90's 91-93. I am hoping he does what Nolan Perry did and gains 2-4 mph on his FB.

Guthrie's winning record is better than Perry's at the same age. Also before Perry's TJ he generally threw a lot of pitches (80 pitches in 4 innings) but somehow had a low ERA. This year Perry has thrown 59 innings. Guthrie 102, Stanifer 87.

Guthrie is efficient with the number of pitches he throws in a game. My fingers are crossed on Guthrie.

That was probably Brandon Barriera best performance as a pro. Hope springs eternal!

I find it interesting to see how prospects have done since their most recent demotion from the majors - how did they handle it? Keys: 254/384/390 - not bad, but power vanished for now but just 16 games I'm sure it'll return. McAdoo after his last demotion hit 290/376/503 which will play anywhere on the diamond. Clearly he focused in those 39 games/178 PA which got him his newest call up (1-4, HR, 2 BB). If he can be a solid player he could take over LF easily with what we have right now. His being a RH bat is perfect for this club.

Piñango: just 6 games: 130/250/304 - ugh. His brief ML time up between AAA stretches was 211/250/263 - ugh. His AAA before that 258/361/516 in 8 games - nice. ML before 174/208/304 - ugh (8 G), 3 G in AAA 214/267/286, 1st ML call up 284/331/433 (43 G). Lets map this out a bit...
AAA start: 288/370/488 22 G
ML: 284/331/433 43 G
AAA: 214/267/286 3 G
ML: 174/208/304 8 G
AAA: 258/361/516 8 G
ML: 211/250/263 7 G
AAA: 130/250/304 6 G so far.
He still has 2 more demotions available this year before he'd be put on waivers automatically (5 up and down iirc, wasn't on 40 man to start). After that hot streak to start his ML career (312/348/468 after 36 G) he has hit combined AAA/ML 188/271/336 in 39 G 144 PA. Yuck. For a pure bat like him that is releasable. Seems clear a hole in his game was found by exposure to the majors and he hasn't fixed it yet. I'd put zero hope on him until he shows signs of life with that bat.

Davis Schneider is another up and down guy. He has dominated AAA but sucked in the majors. Count his AAA/ML numbers together post first demotion and you get a 224/444/448 line. But overall AAA is a weird 253/504/482 line, ML 142/295/274. Very useful AAA hitter, not so useful ML one. A shame as he is so fun to cheer on.

#Bisons UTL Davis Schneider singled in his first at-bat of the game, extending his on-base streak to 31 games across three stints with Buffalo. That is the longest active streak in the International League.

I'm beginning to speculate about another wave of young pitching (Maroudis, Barriera, and Messina) maybe not being so derailed by injuries after all.
