Ken Rosenthal reports that long-time Friend of Batter's Box Keith Law is in the process of interviewing with the Houston Astros.
Well, I guess that'd be a step toward returning to MLB .... :-)

I have no axe to grind with Mr. Law, but I know that many in Toronto do. To them, dispatching the man to the baseball gulag that is Houston may be deemed a suitable punishment. I, myself, wonder if any sin can warrant such treatment.

I believe he's mentioned before that he thought that a rebuilding team would be more desirable to work for.  If you ever wanted a challenge Houston would be it.

"I have no axe to grind with Mr. Law, but I know that many in Toronto do."

And whom is that?

If Keith was to take a job with Houston it would be a loss to the internet. Keith's gives us an independent view of major and minor league players and that has value, even if you don't agree with him.

Keith is opinionated and that works in the media. There is a reason why people like Law and Bob McCown are successful, they generate opinions, reaction and comment.

People don't always agree with Keith but he gives it to you straight and he provides a balance to the Jays internal opinion.

I am surprised that he interviewed, he has said he really likes his current job. I think he must like Luhnow, the GM, and that could be the difference.

I agree with Gerry.

Why isn't he a GM yet?

For those interested in IFA scene, on this website you'll find a fifteen minute video that follows among several others, the signing of Dawel Lugo. Many of you will note that Lugo is wearing Jays paraphernalia well before the signing window and that the Yankees essentially flew over the top prospects in the Dominican Republic for a private workout in New York well before the deadline. A Yankees official notes that one of the reasons was to get age clarity issues out of the way prior to the deadline. It's worth a gander for those interested. The DPL has managed to establish some order to the prospect scene in the Dominican Republic. Most of the top prospects will train nearby, but regularly participate in DPL events. There are still outliers, as Nomar Mazara was not affiliated to the DPL last year, but that does not take away from the amount of prospects affiliated with the league who have been signed in the last few years. There are also videos of prospects that are free to sign in the 2012 IFA window. It looks like there are some solid middle infield prospects.

Thanks Sam. Since I cannot seem to keep track of all our Latin signings & their progress, your updates are very helpful.
