Great write up in Baseball Prospectus this morning on Pompey "the 21-year-old outfielder has blossomed into arguably the top position prospect in the Blue Jays organization".

If the BP scouting report is accurate, I hope he soon drops the switch hitting and concentrates  on the lefthand side.

Matt Boyd to NH, and Dantzler to Lansing!
Gerry - Monday, April 28 2014 @ 11:01 AM EDT (#285403) #
According to "The Twitter" Matt Boyd has been promoted to New Hampshire and LB Dantzler is off the DL and headed to Lansing.

Pompey is a 16th round pick in 2010. He has been young at every level he's played at, which is a good thing. In 2012 he only got into 20 games, anyone know why?  BR has him in limbo from June 25th to August 25th.  In Lansing last year he hit 261/358/394 with 63-106 BB-SO ratio and 38-10 SB-CS.  Vast majority of the time he has been in CF but just shy of 2 chances per game which is low for CF suggesting he has some difficulties in the field. 13 assists in 222 games is good, but not a 'wow' thing.

Did a bit of checking and it seems he was hurt in 2012 via Jays Journal. It was a broken hand but he recovered far faster than expected.  He is listed as being expected to grow out a bit and show more power as he ages.  Very interesting prospect indeed.

I can see why Boyd was promoted.  At 23 he should be in AA, but he was a 6th round (ie: cheap) pick in 2013.  In 31 IP so far he has 0.3 HR/9 1.5 BB/9 10.7 K/9 which are all very, very nice numbers.  1.31 ERA lifetime so far in 55 minor league innings.  Seems the Jays might have found a gem in the garbage part of the draft (rounds 4-10 when they save money).  I'd love to see him keep this up in AA and see ML action this year or next.  That would be extremely fun to watch.

John, Pompey won the 2013 Gold Glove as the best CF in minor league ball (not the Jays system or the MW League, in all the minors).

Interesting hypobole. Minor league stats are always with a hundred and one conditions and fielding even more so.  A range factor sub 2 in CF normally indicates 'not good' but if the staff has a lot of ground ball pitchers, or for whatever reason the balls are being hit to the corners instead then it could be knocked down a lot.  A UZR/150 rating for the minors would be nice but I've never seen it or anything similar (doesn't mean it isn't out there, just that I haven't noticed it).  Good to know though as it jumps Pompey up a bit.

6 shutout innings from Sanchez tonight.   Cardona pulled after 2 batters in Lansing game...wonder if he's injured? anyone know?

I have a suspicion that Roberto Osuna will be assigned to Dunedin in the coming days to replace the departed Matt Boyd.
ayjackson - Monday, April 28 2014 @ 10:18 PM EDT (#285429) #
Or maybe Osuna to Lansing and Graveman to Dunedin.
Gerry - Monday, April 28 2014 @ 10:21 PM EDT (#285430) #
Osuna didn't have TJ until mid-season last year. A promotion now would be very aggressive.

I'd check out Roberto's Twitter feed. Some hints there.

I'd link it but IE and all.

Roberto's first bullpen was March 24. Most are back in game action between 9 and 12 months it seems. He had his around end of July / beginning of August. We're right on 9 months.

He looks trim in his latest photos. Looks like he hit the gym and shed some pounds. Good for him.

Good to see Boyd promoted. Hope Graveman takes his place in Dunedin. Maybe Shane Dawson can take Cardona's spot.

Missed this boyd news yesterday. Cool.

If he keeps dominating at AA, at an age appropriate level, then he becomes a legit prospect toute suite.

Boyd's and Cole's numbers are an interesting comparison. Not much between them except for runs. Boyd's even given up a HR.
