Only two teams played on Sunday and both loss. Buffalo lost a tight game for the third straight day, this one a 1-0 loss that wasted a good start from Andrew Albers. New Hampshire took a 4-0 lead but lost 11-4.

Buffalo 0 Norfolk 1

The offense for the Bisons has gone quiet, perhaps because Chris Colabello and Andy Wilkins are gone and Dalton Pompey has not started hitting yet. Pompey was 1-4 on Sunday and is hitting just .143 in AAA. But Pompey has only struck out 3 times in 28 at bats. In other words he has put the ball in play 25 times and has just 4 hits, a BABIP of 160. That should improve. Ryan Schimpf had two hits, Andy Burns went 1-3 and had the only extra base hit, a double.

Andrew Albers pitched very well and an unearned run gave him the loss. Julio Borbon doubled and went to third on a Chris Dickerson error in the sixth inning. A sac fly scored the winning run. Albers went seven innings, seven hits, one walk, four K's.

Trenton 11 New Hampshire 4

New Hampshire took a 4-0 lead in the second inning off Yankee prospect Luis Severino. Kevin Nolan hit a two run home run, Jorge Flores added an RBI double and Dwight Smith an RBI single. The Fisher Cats ended with 9 hits, KC Hobson, Nolan and Flores had two each. Smith, Nolan, Hobson and Flores have batting averages over .300. Smith leads that foursome in OPS at 841.

Trenton chipped away at that four run deficit. John Anderson went four innings and gave up four runs, leaving the game tied. Tiago Da Silva took the loss, allowing two runs in 2.1 innings. Arik Sikula has lost his form from last season, he gave up five runs in 2 innings and now sports a 19.80 ERA.

Preston Guilmet was  DFAed to make room for Tolleson and Jason Aquino has been sold to the pirates.  Looks like all the minor league depth may just sort itself out with the Jays running plays through the 40 man so frequently.

Matt Garrioch has a rundown on shortstops in the draft.  My favourite comment is about Daniel Pineiro: "he is from Canada and plays like he is from Canada".  Seems like a natural pick for the Blue Jays of 2015.

Remember, no first round pick for the Jays this season.

The Jays do have a compensation pick (#29) for the loss of Melky.  The shortstop list in the article has 24 names, so there might be a good one left there at 29.

Daniel Pineiro @ 6'5" seems to scream future 3B & he should be available when the jays pick @ #29 - of course, I hope his nationality plays only a negligible role in any consideration of his value as a prospect.

Thanks for the link. I liked the article because the author explicitly admits when he doesn't know enough to judge a certain aspect of a player. It makes me more trusting of what he does comment on.

I have no idea whether a hometown discount exists for Canadian players on the Jays (i.e. will Pompey's first extension cost less?) but I do know that the likelihood of any draft pick making the majors is low enough that I wouldn't be letting nationality/birthplace influence my picks. I know it worked out well enough for the Twins with Mauer, but that is an isolated case with extenuating circumstances (what if the Cubs didn't kill Prior's arm?)

I agree that the club shouldn't overdraft based on nationality.  It was a joking reference to the number of Canadians who have found their way on to the major league roster in 2015.

We have a signing bonus pool of about $5.7 million, which includes the penalty free extra 5%. Our 1st pick has a slot value of about $1.9 mil.

You do not have to sign the picks in the first 3 rounds because they are protected for the next 2 drafts.

Thanks for the SS link. There was also a list of top 100 maybe 2 weeks ago. There were a lot of interesting pitchers on that list.

I expect and would actually be happy if AA drafted similar to his 2013 draft. He signed all 10 top rounds except #1 Phil Bickford. 4 of the 9 signed were college picks. I believe that they were signed under slot.
I believe he then gambled and picked a few long shots that fell in the draft. 2 of those were # 11 Jacob Brentz and # 40 Rowdy Tellez, 2 HS picks and probably over slot signings. # 13 was Tim Locastro a college pick that has managed to get to Lansing this year.
Lastly HS catcher Danny Jansen was picked in the 16th round. Probably not an over slot signing, so far so good.

So interesting names on released ?

Joe Saunders by Seattle
Daniel Cabrera by Cincinnati
Matt Capps by Atlanta

Would/Do/Should the Jays sign one or two of these veterans to New Hamsphire so our farm prospects learn from them ?
