Clean sweep for the affiliates. Hooray! Andy Burns was clutch. Shane Opitz went deep and the Fisher Cats played defense. Dunedin hit the baseball and J.D. Davis had a big game in Lansing. Your affiliates were 4-0!

Toledo 4 BUFFALO 6

Brad Glenn and Melky Mesa bopped homers, Dalton Pompey had two hits and a stolen base at the top of the order, and Andy Burns had the go-ahead hit in the sixth with two outs.

Burns’ hit was particularly clutch according to the Bisons’ recap people. Burns came through after two batters before him failed to cash runners in scoring position. This act of heroics avoided a “hugged” missed opportunity. Andy says no to hugs.

No Hugs!

NEW HAMPSHIRE 4 Binghamton 3

Taylor Cole was pretty good, Shane Opitz hit a rare homer, and the Fisher Cats turned a game-ending double play to win a close one. Cole went five and a third innings, allowing two earned on six hits and two walks. Cole struck out two batters. The Fisher Cats had only four hits on the night. Two of those hits resulted in runs. Opitz had a two-run homerun, as mentioned. Kevin Nolan had a run scoring single in the first and Berti produced sac fly in the seventh.

DUNEDIN 6 Fort Myers 3

Dunedin collected fourteen hits, on the other hand. Matt Dean and Dickie Joe Thon had three apiece. Dawel Lugo, Roemon Fields, and L.B. Dantzler had two each. Justin Shafer pitched five shutout innings, striking out three in the process. Other notables: Dawel Lugo logged a four pitch free pass (his third on the season) for an RBI. Dawel only walks for runs.

LANSING 8 South Bend 6

All-world J.D. Davis had a big night. Davis had three hits including a homer, a walk, four runs, three stolen bases, and made two impressive catches in right field (apparently). Ryan McBroom had three hits as well. On the mound, Starlyn Suriel pitched six and third innings of three hit baseball. He allowed one unearned run. J.D. Davis made the error. He was all over this box score.

We have a good sized group of decent outfield prospects. All over the map, different ages, sizes and talent levels. In a month we should sort this out, after the SSS hump.

How about promoting veteran relievers to Toronto ? Bobby Korecky, Wilton Lopez etc. so that their values increase enough for trade.

Jays just traded for 22yr old IF Ronald Torreyes from the Astros.

He's had a disaster start this season, but before this year he's held his own at the plate at every level despite being one of the younger players at his level each time. He's a little midget but can field SS. Doesn't walk much but doesn't strikeout at all. I like this kid's chances much more than a guy like Goins.

so that their values increase enough for trade.

The players you cited will never have trade value. Ever. There are tons of players of comparable talent, all available to any team that wants them.

I have no doubt that there are many articles discussing the idea behind replacement level. They are worth a read. In one of his Abstracts, Bill James illustrates this concept clearly. Start with the premise that a Normal curve can represent society's skill at baseball. Major leaguers live at the far right end of this curve. Draw a vertical line separating non-major leaguers from major leaguers. There is a huge number of players just to the left of this line. These are players at replacement level, or just below. They are freely available because they are so numerous.

JD Davis has been promoted to Dunedin. That is JD Davis the outfielder, not DJ Davis the outfielder selected in the first round.

The coaching staff in Vancouver were very high on Davis and were very upset when he got injured last year. I never saw him play so can't really comment on him but the coaching staff were unusually effusive about him.

Can the Jays earn anything by selling them to non-MLB teams ?

Four losses on the farm on Friday night.

Buffalo lost when Colt Hynes gave up two runs in the eighth. Hynes made the Jays out of spring training but has been poor with the Bisons. He has a WHIP of 1.57 and has only 2 K's in 7.2 IP. Randy Wolf gave up one run in 5 innings. Ryan Schimpf had two home runs, both solo shots.

Blake McFarland finally blew a save, he took the loss for New Hampshire with two runs allowed in the ninth. Joel Pineiro made his first start, but it wasn't good. Kevin Nolan had three hits, Dwight Smith two.

Dunedin were shut out, Jeremy Gabryszwski took the loss.

Lansing lost 11-4. Sean Reid-Foley and Chase Mallard were both hit around.
