The top three teams all lost on Tuesday and Lansing were behind 3-2 headed to the ninth inning. The Lugnuts loaded the bases for Danny Jansen who cleared them. Jesus Tinoco did not get the win but he held Bowling Green hitless for five innings. Daniel Norris was decent but not great, he took the loss for Buffalo and had just one three up, three down inning. New Hampshire played a slugfest, scored ten runs, and lost. The Jays lost a one run game, the Dunedin Jays that is.

Indianapolis 2 Buffalo 1

Daniel Norris worked into the seventh inning and threw 61 strikes out of 94 pitches. He did leave some of those strikes in the middle of the plate and put on 11 base runners through seven hits and four walks. He only had one 1-2-3 inning. So a decent start for Norris but not a knockout. He did just give up two runs.

The Bisons scored in the third, the Muni-nator doubled and scored on a sac fly from Dioner Navarro. Buffalo had just five hits, Luke Scott had two.

Reading 12 New Hampshire 10

35 hits between the two teams. Reading scored in six innings, New Hampshire in four. John Anderson was bombed for eleven hits and seven runs in three innings. Dustin Antolin added four runs and six hits.

Ian Parmley hit a three run home run. Shane Opitz had two doubles, two runs scored and two RBI's. Dwight Smith had three hits and two runs scored. Jorge Flores and Kevin Nolan also had two hits.

Dunedin 2 Jupiter 3

Both teams had seven hits. Murphy Smith took the loss even though he only gave up one earned run, and two unearned. Alberto Tirado pitched the last two inning, no hits allowed, he did concede two walks.

Seven Jays had one hit each. Derrick Loveless and Dickie Thon combined for the first run. Roemen Fields with a double and Dawel Lugo with a single generated the second.

Lansing 6 Bowling Green 3

The Lugnuts trailed 3-2 headed to their last chance in the ninth. Rowdy Tellez led off with an infield single, Ryan McBroom followed with a walk and DJ Davis a single to load the bases. Danny Jansen delivered a bases clearing double to turn the tables on Bowling Green. Josh Almonte also doubled to make it 6-3. Almonte also doubled in the third inning. He scored on an Anthony Alford single. In the sixth Tellez drove in Tim Locastro. In addition to Almonte and Tellez, DJ Davis and Locastro had two hits each.

Jesus Tinoco had an excellent start. He was victimized by his defense in the first inning, an error and a couple of hits led to two runs. From the second through the sixth innings Tinoco kept Bowling Green hitless. Tinoco did walk four hitters but was in control. He left in the seventh after a lead off double. Mark Biggs pitched the last three and picked up the win.

D.J Davis did not strike out last night, and now has 5 walks and only 2 strikeouts in his last 10 games.  Discipline at the plate and on the basepaths are the keys to success for him; he seems to have made strides.  If he keeps this up, he'll be in Dunedin faster than I anticipated.

In addition to having a very promising start to full season play, I think Anthony Alford has had a very positive impact on the play of fellow Mississippi native D.J Davis - I hope the jays keep them together, at least for this season - maybe both will earn a promotion to Dunedin to join fellow southerner J.D Davis.

Andy Burns is showing signs of life in Buffalo - maybe he can become that multi-positional utility player the jays are hoping to develop.

... Interesting to see former Jay outfield prospect in a second attempt at a pitching career. He pitched better than his line indicated. He entered the game with two men on base and proceeded to retire the side with a pop out and two swinging K's, The next inning, again, three up,three down with a K looking, another pop up, and then, for his last out of the game, a ground out.
... Loewen came out for his third inning and was greeted by a Smith Jr line drive single followed by a hit batter and finally a walk. Two of the three inherited runners then scored with the aid of two errors.
... It appears, from the recap at least, that it was a fairly successful outing and that there is a passable chance that Loewen could possibly be of value in a major league bullpen and as well, being a LH bat off the bench and backup OF/1stB ... a hybrid relief/utility player, if you will, as a "Rupper", or would that be a "Urpper" ? ... Possibly even, a "Loogey Urper"?

Kevin Nolan is hitting pretty well in NH; how about sending Schimpf, Diaz or Kawasaki - essentially Buffalo hitter who is struggling in hitting - to NH in exchange ofr Nolan to Buffalo ? Maybe Nolan's hitting performance is in-between the AAA and AA levels......

not ready to dismiss 3yrs of ~30k% quite yet, but the drop down to ~20% is legit encouraging. still a bit high for a guy with little power but not awful.

Adam Loewen's AAA line right now is a marvel. He's thrown 17.1 innings with 13 strikeouts, which is solid for a lefty. The 20 walks are a slight problem, though.

The hybrid player is an interesting concept, though. The reason you don't see it is because the players in the show are THAT good, and you don't have the time to master two different jobs. Still, you'd think somebody in the last 25 years would have fit this role as the 25th man on the roster. Micah Owings has a career .283/.310/.502 line in 219 PA. Terrible underlying numbers, but I wonder what he's up to right now.

At heart, I'm a fan of the NL game and making pitchers hit. Syndergaard put an absolutely beautiful swing on a ball for a oppo/CF bomb in his last start, and Greinke stole 2nd on a 1-0 count because the pitcher wasn't paying him any attention.
