Anyone know why Pentecost hasn't been playing lately (that I have noticed anyways).

Back injury.

I don't think it's been noted here yet, but Gurriel is back in the Dunedin lineup.  He was at SS for Dunedin on Monday (went hitless but drove in a run with a sacrifice fly; made an error on a throw). Then he had a scheduled day off yesterday.  I assume he'll be back in the Dunedin lineup again tonight.  Let's hope the injury concerns are definitely finished and he begins climbing the ladder quickly.

It may be time to inquire if Maese and Murphy are injured as neither is listed in the upcoming Lansing rotation. Same for Zeuch in Dunedin?

I was thinking of Gurriel as a LF, didn't realize he could play SS. Any chance he can be the Jays starting 2B this year?

If he plays well I don't see them holding him back.

Gurriel hasn't played competitive baseball in over 2 years, So my expectations for this year are modest.

"....Gurriel hasn't played competitive baseball in over 2 years, So my expectations for this year are modest....."

I don't think it's quite that bad.  He played 59 games in the 2015-16 season in Cuba, and then defected in February 2016 after playing in the Caribbean series in the Dominican Republic.  He then took several months off so that he would be exempt from the spending limits for international players under the age of 23.  So it looks like he didn't play competitively for about 12 months before he joined the Jays at spring training this year.  Most analysts thought that he would begin this year at the AA or AAA level, so he's probably fairly close to the majors, if we set aside the injury issues.

The high expectations, I think, are because of his $22-million contract.  The Jays don't throw around that kind of money lightly.  And in brief appearances this year, he has looked very good.  The Jays need a 2B and a LF, and Gurriel is probably capable of playing either, although he is unlikely to stick at middle infield in the long run.

1bb/12k in Espada's first 6.2ip this year. nice start after a dissappointing year last year. Only damage against him has come on 2 solo HR so far.

Looks like a nice young pitching staff in Vancouver. They should be getting some help in the way of position players soon.

So as far as I can tell, no player in any Low-A league since 2006 (when fangraphs' earliest stats start) has managed to post a 200wrc+ or higher in 250+pa, like Bichette's 208 in 255pa. Of any age.

The closest anyone has come was a 22yr old Goedert putting up a 209 in 205pa.

So he's already in historic territory.

In a Fangraphs chat this afternoon, Dave Cameron said that he thinks Vlad Jr. is the best prospect in baseball and added that he would not be surprised if he turned out to be the best hitter in the game in the next 10 years.

Great story on Eric Pardinho who is expected to sign with the Jays on July 2.

"Dave Cameron said that he thinks Vlad Jr. is the best prospect in baseball and added that he would not be surprised if he turned out to be the best hitter in the game in the next 10 years."

So Shatkins should be able to get a pretty good player for him at the trade deadline?

The preliminary bluefield roster is up at milb.com... not too many surprises but good to see Castillo, Galindo and Silva moved up - along with Contreras.

Rios is a favorite of mine Uglyone. People don't talk about him nearly enough in my opinion. I like him a ton better than some higher rated pitchers in the system. He may be my favorite arm in the system right now honestly.
uglyone - Thursday, June 22 2017 @ 09:57 AM EDT (#344079) #
Yeah Lugnut his numbers coming up have been as impressive as anyone's. I was a bit worried about him this year but now it seems his struggles were likely health related.
