The affiliates dropped three of four games on Wednesday that included a doubleheader sweep. New Hampshire's game against Portland was washed out.

Buffalo 10 Lehigh Valley 9

Christian Colón and Logan Warmoth belted three-run homers and Kevin Smith also went deep as the Herd held off the Phillies affiliate. Warmoth's blast wiped out a 7-6 deficit. Smith also walked and had a sacrifice fly. Breyvic Valera, Alejandro Kirk, Rowdy Tellez, Tyler White and Cullen Large had two hits apiece. Kirk drew a walk and had a sac fly.

Thomas Hatch tossed five innings and surrendered five runs (three earned) on four hits (including a homer) and three walks. He struck out four and all but one out of his 11 outs in play were on the ground. Hobie Harris gave up two runs and was charged with a blown save but got the win. In the most anticipated return from injury since George Springer, Tommy Milone put up a couple of perfect bagels. Bryan Baker was bopped for two runs in the ninth but got his 6th save.

Everett 2 Vancouver 1

After scoring a combined 26 runs in the series opener, the C's and the AquaSox only mustered three runs but the Mariners affiliate had two of them to get their second straight win. Adam Kloffenstein surrendered a leadoff triple on an 0-2 pitch and gave up a run-scoring groundout. Two walks and a single to begin the second gave Everett the eventual winning run. Kloffenstein was an out short of five innings, allowing two runs on five hits, a plunk and five walks while whiffing four. Seven of his nine outs in play were on the fake grass. Adrian Hernandez stranded the two runners left for him and put together two shutout stanzas on one hit and one walk while striking out three. Justin Maese took care of his inherited runner and pitched 1-1/3 perfect innings with a K.

Monty's Mounties got their only run in the seventh on a Rafael Lantigua groundout that scored a John Aiello double in his C's debut. The C's got the first two men aboard in the ninth but Aiello hit into a double play to dampen that rally. Lantigua had a hit, a stolen base and picked up an outfield assist from left field to throw out a runner at second. Spencer Horwitz reached base twice with a single and his High-A West leading 38th walk. Luis De Los Santos and Eric Rivera also had base knocks.

Palm Beach 5 Dunedin 3 (Game 1 - 7 Innings

Dunedin had a 2-0 lead before things fell apart in the later innings. Nathanael Perez recorded the first four outs, getting around two hits and a walk. Juan DePaula kept the Cardinals in check until the fourth inning. He was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) in three innings on four this and two walks while recording three punch outs. Geison Urban allowed one of two De Paula runners to score and allowed one of his own over the last 1-2/3 innings.

Mac Mueller and Zac Cook gave Dunedin the early lead with RBI doubles and Cook would drive in another run with a single to help him go 3-for-3 with a stolen base. Oakville, Ontario's Dasan Brown singled on the first pitch of the game. Miguel Hiradlo, Zach Britton and Harrison Ray all had base hits. Orelvis Martinez was 0-for-4.

Palm Beach 7 Dunedin 6 (Game 2 - 7 Innings)

The Cards pulled off the two-game sweep with two runs in the sixth off Andrew Bash to overcome a 6-5 deficit. Bash was bopped for four runs on six hits and a walk over four innings and struck out two. He took over for Trent Palmer who was popped for three runs on four hits, a hit by pitch and a walk and only one got strike three call.

Harrison Ray had a two-run homer to give the D-Jays a brief lead in the sixth. Ray and Orelvis Martinez had two-hit efforts with Ray getting a double and Martinez singling home a pair of runs. Zac Cook dropped a bunt RBI single and was hit by a pitch. Steward Berroa tripled and took one for the team. Miguel Hiraldo, Zach Britton and P.K. Morris also had base hits. Addison Barger had a sac fly.

Is Kirk closer to return than Jansen, who didn't play at all last night?
There were calls for Harris and Baker with their low ERA's to be added to the 40 man and called up, but their ERA's aren't quite so low anymore.
The trade deadline should clear out some bodies one way or another. I'm guessing Rowdy will get another chance at some point in hopes of recreating last years seeming breakthrough. But I'm also getting a AAAA vibe about him as time goes on. Hope I'm wrong.

It's tough for Tellez because he's not going to play every day.

Maybe they DFAed Beasly to make room for Kirk?

SWR going tonight. Hope that stinker was a one-of.

Buffalo is a bit interesting. Logue vs Mark Appel, who's trying a comeback at age 29. His season line is poor, especially since all but his last game were in AA. But his last 2 starts have been his only 2 good starts. 10 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 8 K.

A few days ago I listened to a chat with the C's broadcaster hosting the other 3 minor league broadcasters. It was great. I found it accidently and cannot find it now. It is done every Friday. I cannot remember any broadcasters names.

They mentioned that Kloff is working on improving many of his pitches which may explain his mediocre results. Every chat has a report on O Martinez.
