Rowdy Tellez and Vinny Capra each drove in four runs. Rowdy helped Buffalo win, while New Hampshire lost despite Capra's efforts. Vancouver and Dunedin also lost.

Lehigh Valley 4 Buffalo 5

Portland 9 New Hampshire 4 - game 1

Portland 3 New Hampshire 3 -game 2, suspended after three innings

Vancouver 4 Everett 7

Dunedin 4 Palm Beach 7

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

Rowdy Tellez drove in four runs, his big hit was a three run home run. He went 2-4.

Rowdy also made an error, leading to three unearned runs against TJ Zeuch. The inning went out, error, double, out, home run. Zeuch went five and a third with no earned runs allowed. Both Joel Payamps and Patrick Murphy pitched in this game. C came on for the ninth. He started by walking the first two batters but escaped with a run in and the tying run on third.

Simeon Woods Richardson was not good in game one. He was hit around the park, nine hits allowed in three innings. SWR has been out of form since his trip to the Olympic qualifiers. Vinny Capra drove in all four runs with a single and a double. Otto Lopez had two hits, his average is .354.

In game two, Samad Taylor had two hits but was removed for a pinch runner. Vinny Capra doubled in another run to add to his game one tally.

CJ Van Eyk had a typical start. Once again he had a bad first inning. A single and two walks loaded the baes and a double cleared them. He then retired ten in a row before hitting the lead off man in the fifth. Two more walks followed and he was out of the game. Two of those runners came into score so Van Eck was charged with five runs despite only allowing two hits. He struck out eight. C

John Aiello missed most of this season so far, he has just 16 plate appearances. In this game he homered and doubled and drove in three runs. Tanner Morris also homered, his third. Sebastian Espino had two hits and is hitting .324.

Jol Concepcion couldn't get out of the first inning, he allowed four runs. Juan De Paula followed and gave up three and Dunedin were in a big hole.

Orelvis Martinez and PK Morris each had two hits. Dasan Brown drove in two runs with a single.

So Vinny Capra is having one heck of an (SS) season. His previous seasons showed no sign of a batter who was capable .379 .450 .644 1.094. In a team with Martin, Groshans, Moreno, Lopez and Taylor in the lineup, it’s hard to stand out like this, but here we are.

In another sense, it hasn’t been an SS record, because he is playing more 3B than SS, along with some LF as well.

As 3B is one of the biggest Jays’ question marks, is there a diamond in the rough here?

What I said last week was that Capra had been injured so his average came from a small sample size and that his BABIP was very high. So we needed a bigger sample.

I don't think one more week is a big enough sample but if he keeps it going until the end of the month then we have to take him seriously.

His Babip is .537 so its just too early to tell. There seems to be an improvement in power - maybe through technique- ld and gb are tied around 25% and GB at 50% a career high. Strikeouts have gone up from 19% to 29% which may be rust.
Maybe someone who's playing himself into utility discussion with more upside. Who knows if this is a hot streak or luck or a change that is sustainable.

Updating my prospect list halfway through the minor league season and Sebastian Espino caught my eye as the youngest hitter in Vancouver. He's 21, hitting .324/.373/.505 in 120 PA. Not bad for a guy acquired in the Rule 5 draft last December as a defense-first shortstop. Curiously he hasn't played any SS for Vancouver, splitting his time between 3B and LF.

Well, a minor league rule 5 draftee can be picked up again by another team unless he's on the AAA 38 man roster.
Seems pretty unlikely that the Jays would move him from A+ to AAA.
Trade bait maybe.

Matt Eddy of Baseball America tweeted out the minor league weighted runs above average leaders for the month of June, according to Baseball America data.

Every batter with 10 wRAA or more.

Samad Taylor was third with 15.3 wRAA.
Kevin Smith was 12th with 12.2.
Harrison Ray was 31st with 10.0.

Thomas Hatch was activated off the 60 day IL today and demoted to Buffalo.

Tonight he has pitched five innings of one hit shutout. Take that front office!

Jordan Groshans was removed from tonight's game after he struck out in the fourth.

I think he might be injury prone.

Borucki was placed on the 60 IL today.

The Borucki placement was only to open up a 40 man spot. His 60 days are up this weekend and he should be with the Bisons on rehab around that time as well.

Harrison Ray is an undrafted player, old for Dunedin.

Yet, I imagine Borucki could be in for a lengthy rehab.

I imagine Borucki could be in for a lengthy rehab.

This certainly feels like the perpetual state of affairs for both Borucki and Merryweather, two talented pitchers that the team is best served treating as bonuses if healthy, but not integral to any future plans.
