Adam Kloffenstein had his best start of the season. It helped New Hampshire get the only win on the farm on Saturday. There was little else to get excited about on Saturday.

Iowa 11 Buffalo 6

New Hampshire 3 Somerset 1 - 5 innings

Vancouver 3 Everett 7

Dunedin 0 Palm Beach 5

Three Stars

Third Star - Miguel Hiraldo

Second Star - Riley Tirotta

First Star - Adam Kloffenstein

NOTES

Drew Hutchison continues to pitch in three inning outings.

The Bisons made five errors in the game.

Leo Jimenez came off the IL and went 1-3.

Adam Kloffenstein was excellent. He went five innings and had eight strikeouts. Two hits and one run allowed. Now can he do it again?

Dahian Santos was excelent through three innings for Vancouver. But then he walked a couple in the fourth, add a line drive and a home run, four runs allowed.

The C's second hit of the game was a three run home run in the seventh inning. The homer was by Riley Tirotta and followed two walks. It was one of just three hits by the C's.

Just three hits for Dunedin, the hitting malaise continues. Two od the hits were infield hits. Three hits, one walk and three double plays means that the Jays had one over the minimum come to the plate.

Kloffenstein just completed 98 IP in AA. 22 years old for most of the year so still young. I don't know if his velo is still under 95 mph. As Gerry mentioned can he do it again? Was definitely good to see.

With all the games Vancouver has missed due to rain Dahain Santos made only his 2nd start of the year and had 6 days off between starts. His opponent had 4 & 5 off days between starts. This may mean something or nothing. Today Robberse will pitch with 4 days rest and on Tuesday Tiedemann will pitch with 5 days rest and probably next Sunday with 4 days rest. Again is there any effect?

Buffalo won but the pitching was not outstanding. L Quinones has been promoted to Buffalo and did well enough.

NH lost, Robberse was not good.

Dunedin won. The offense was G Santaigo. He has 12 ABs this year compared to 30-45 for others. Young 19 year old SP E Alcalde was very good again. I don't know anything about him.

I think the Jays minor league system looks as barren as it has in a really long time. Outside of Tiderman I don’t see a lot of future regulars in this system right now.

I saw Alcalde late last year and I know he has fans in the Jays development system. When I saw him, he was mostly 89-91 mph with the fastball with ok movement. I liked the CH more than the slider but he got swings/misses on all three offerings. He's short and thick in the lower half so not overly projectable.

This year, Statcast shows he's been more 89-92 so a small bump in velo. He's throwing his slider more and getting it over for strikes. The CH looks like it's taken a step back and he gets more spin on it than you probably wants to. He also gives up a lot of FBs.

I'd peg him as a future up/down guy (aka fringe 40-man) with the ceiling of a middle reliever if he keeps throwing strikes, the slider keeps improving and he can find a little more velo still. He's still only 19.

The Jays are going to have to figure out third base if Chapman walks as a free agent. He’s arguably their best player this year and Barger, Orelvis and Lopez are not impressing in the minors in 2023.

All in all, 2023 looks like the Jays time to shine. They’re essentially fully healthy and (so far) Chapman is having an MVP-level walk year.

After I lost hopelessness Cade Doughty and Alan Roden have big nights. Those two and Tucker Toman are the three I’m watching closest this year.

I’m curious to see how Enmanuel Bonilla does this year and beyond. He is a long way off, though.
