NOTES

Buffalo had eight hits but two players had five of them so it was hard to get a rally going. Yohendrick Pinango went 3-4 with a double and three RBI. Those three hits brought his average up to .232. RJ Schreck had two singles and a walk, he is hitting .281.

Adam Kloffenstein was charged with all five runs in 5.2 innings.

The first NH game went to extra innings. Charles McAdoo led off the eighth with a two run home run. He also had an RBI single. Victor Arias had two hits to bring his AA average above .200. Rafael Sanchez made his first appearance since July 12th. He threw three shutout innings.

McAdoo homered again in the second game, a two run shot and that was enough as three pitchers combined to throw a three hit shutout. Alex Amalfi made the spot start and was excellent. Four shutout innings with one hit allowed.

Arjun Nimmala had three hits, two of them doubles, and drove in two of Vancouver's runs. Eddie Micheletti and Cutter Coffey at the top of the order were getting on base, they each had a hit and two walks.

Gage Stanifer was again a little wild. He walked four in four innings. He also gave up three hits for seven baserunners but only was charged with one run.

Dunedin's game went to extra innings. The D Jays scored a run in the top of the tenth through a passed ball. But Ft Myers scored two in the bottom of the inning with a hit batter and two singles. Manuel Beltre and Braden Barry had two hits each.

Johnny King was dominating as usual, five innings, two hits, two walks and seven K's.

Just found out Khal Stephen's injury is a shoulder impingement. So, it lessens his value a little and makes the Bieber deal look a little better; it's the same injury that Bowden Francis is dealing with... and Yimi also had.

Bieber pitches today at 1 PM and Juaron Watts-Brown makes his Orioles org debut against his old team at AA.

Bieber looks sharp.

Bieber makes tidy work in the first inning. Two swinging strikeouts, one pop-up to the catcher (Valenzuela who was just acquired for Wagner).

13 total pitches, 12 strikes. Fastball up to 94 mph.

Victor Arias homers off Watts-Brown in the 1st inning. His first AA HR.

5 innings, 62 pitches for Bieber. Good progress for him, as long as he feels good tomorrow.

BA Roboscout notes

Rather than opening this section (again) with Blue Jays southpaw Johnny King, who remains atop the throne of Low-A pitchers....

Blue Jays right hander Trey Yesavage rises into the top 10 at Double-A with his 25 innings that he has now accrued, aggregated with his production in the two lower levels. Toronto manager John Schneider mentioned him by name as a pitcher who might soon contribute for the major league club and why wouldn’t he? RoboScout projects him as a mid 3 ERA and sub-1.20 WHIP pitcher with a 29% strikeout rate at peak. That’s a potential #2.

Realistically, is there any chance the Blue Jays and Bieber agree to an extension before the season ends? Or will Toronto have to compete with the other 29 teams to re-sign him in the off-season?

Hmmm. Wonder who the next lineup for the Jays is using just prospects (no ML'ers).
  • C: Brandon Valenzuela - switch hitter, hit 229/313/387 in AA for SD, 24 years old, now in Buffalo.
  • 1B: Jackson Hornung, 24 RH A+/AA 308/387/471 also has time in LF, higher OPS in AA than A+, should be in AAA next year - could be a platoon option in '27 when Springer is gone.
  • 2B: Eddinson Paulino, 22 in AA LH 238/315/435 not bad, not great
  • 3B: Charles McAdoo, 23 in AA RH 243/311/414 same as Paulino. Potential but will he take another step or two?
  • SS: Josh Kasevich, 24 was in AAA RH injured all year mostly 318/464/318 in 28 PA in rookie/low A, then Leo Jiménez, 24 AAA/majors 216/319/294 combined and out of options after this year. He will fight for a backup slot in '26
  • Arjun Nimmala, 19 RH in A+ 236/329/410 - too soon to be listed as 'next up' but will be next year by mid-season.
  • Orelvis Martinez, 23 RH in AAA 191/298/372 having the worst season of his career at the worst possible time
  • LF: Yohendrick Pinango, 23 LH AA/AAA 265/366/465 733 OPS in AAA vs 928 in AA - a year away imo but he is close.
  • CF: Victor Arias, 21 LH A+/AA 285/383/418 - just a 666 OPS in AA so needs time.
  • RF: RJ Schreck, 24 LH AA/AAA 261/395/488 playing at all 3 OF slots and doing well. 879 OPS in AAA so he isn't sucking at the highest level he has been at.
  • Jonatan Clase, 23 AAA/Majors 241/334/344 - looks great at times, then slumps badly. On final option this year.
Those are the hitters who catch my eye as close to the majors and likely to fight for roles at some point in 2026. Final options used up in '25 though for Jimenez, Clase, Orelvis Martinez, Barger used his final one this year, Lukes has one left, so a few tough choices coming up in spring if those guys are still here and not traded. Clearly Barger's ran out at the perfect time, and it looks like Loperfido (173 wRC+ after today) will not be going back down (of course we said the same about Schneider at one time).

If you use ML'ers as well the long term lineup is...
  • C: Kirk with whoever (Heineman has 3 years of team control left)
  • 1B: Vlad until he retires
  • 2B: Gimenez signed through 2029
  • 3B: Barger - 5 years of control after this year (103 days in majors pre-2025 so his brief AAA time wasn't enough to add another year)
  • SS: Bo (FA), Clement - under team control though 2028, solid on D at SS/2B so depends how they want to shuffle him and Gimenez - his D is best at 3B then 2B, SS his weakest of the 3 IF positions
  • LF/DH: Springer/Santander then after '26 a slot is open for Schreck/Pinango/whoever
  • CF: Varsho for '26, Straw/Clase/Arias/whoever after that if Varsho isn't signed long term (I expect him to be this winter)
  • RF: Loperfido - the way he has been hitting I expect him to take a corner and be left there for the next 5 years
  • UT: Jimenez - out of options, 6 years of control, why not? At least until a better option comes along (Kasevich is supposed to be damn good on defense for example thus possibly an ideal backup).
Fun to dig into that a bit. Rotation? Yesavage, Tiedemann, Macko, Bloss the obvious ones, many others who could be mixed in as guys move on (Bassitt/Scherzer this winter, Gausman/Berrios the next, etc.). The pen is always a pure crapshoot with Hoffman/Rodriguez/Varland/Little/Fisher/Nance/Fluharty/Sandlin all having a 2+ years of control left, and Garcia signed for 2026 as well. Burr has 3 years left if kept on the 40 man but 0 options (same for Nance).

Looks like Schreck in AAA has regained the lofty heights he reached in AA earlier this year:

2025 AA: .266/.396/.518
2025 AAA: .279/.380/.525

He turned 25 less than a month ago, so he's not a young prospect. And he's a left fielder, so he's going to have to hit to be successful in the majors. But he's had an impressive year. He was good in 2024 too.

Loperfido is having a great run but I think it's a little early to suggest he'll be manning the position for the next five years.
