NOTES

Jon Clase led off the Buffalo first inning with a home run. Brandon Valenzuela, who has been hitting better than I expected, doubled in run number two in the third. The big blast was a three run home run from Josh Rivera in the fifth inning. At that stage Buffalo led 5-1 and were in control until Hayden Juenger and Paxton Schultz made it close in the eighth inning.

Easton Lucas was the starter but was unable to get through five innings. He did throw 4.1 with six K's.

Victor Arias hit a sac fly almost to the warning track in the tenth inning to score the winning run. Earlier Alex De Jesus had hit a solo home run and Dasan Brown had an RBI triple. The Fisher Cats had five hits in the game.

Rafael Sanchez had to face the Binghamton hitters for the second time this week. On Tuesday he was charged with four runs in four innings so expectation for Sunday were low. But he surprised by going five shutout innings, two hits, no walks, six K's.

JR Freethy, who reached base six times yesterday, singled to start the game. Three walks followed and the C's led 1-0. Nick Goodwin homered leading off the third inning. Carter Cunningham then created a run with a double, a steal and scoring on a throwing error by the catcher. A Tucker Toman double and a walk put two on for Matt Scannell to drive one out of the park for a three run home run, 6-0 Vancouver.

Jackson Wentworth versus Spokane on Tuesday, five innings, no runs, one hit. Wentworth versus Spokane on Sunday, six innings, one run, five hits. That's a good weeks work.

The D Jays made four errors leading to two unearned runs and that was the margin of the loss. Hayden Wilkerson was the starter and just lasted 3.1 innings.

David Beckles went 3-4 with a double to lead the offense. Yeuni Munoz drove in two runs with a single but was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double.

C Clarke (27): 140pa, 14.3b%, 10.7k%, .324bip, .299avg, .103iso, 121wrc+

Schreck and Jimenez remain good looking prospects, even though slightly old. Tirotta likely a babip mirage this year, and the babip hasn't even got him to an actual exciting level anyways. Stefanic is the AAAA utility guy that he is.

Can anyone say anything about Clarke's defense at C? He's still played the majority of his games at C (26), not at DH (11) or 1B (6). If he can play C at all his bat makes him interesting still.

Clase and Pinango continue to look solid at their age-appropriate level. Nothing crazy tho.

My boy Nunez continues to slightly disappoint - if only his raw power would ever actually show up.

solid start for Valenzuela - his track record at the plate is actually solid if he actually is a plus defender at C. He's been mostly a year or two old for his level, but that's not a huge deal for a catcher, and has done this so far: A (20) 123wrc+, A+ (20-22) 109wrc+, AA (22-24) 829pa, 99wrc+, AAA (24) 91wrc+. He did stall out a bit in AA there but nothing disastrous.

As for Rivera - i was interested to see what would happen with him when Kasevich returned, but now Jimenez is injured so we won't see yet.

AA

Young for Level

OF Arias (21): 106pa, 10.4b%, 23.6k%, .324bip, .258avg, .151iso, 114wrc+

Slowed down a bit but still very nice.

Age-Appropriate

IF Paulino (22): 290pa, 7.6b%, 26.6k%, .261bip, .213avg, .171iso, 96wrc+

C Deschamps (22): 12pa, 8.3b%, 41.7k%, .167bip, .091avg, .000iso, -18wrc+

Paulino and Martinez are seeing once-promising seasons kinda fall apart now approaching the end. Too bad.

C Sharp (23): 167pa, 7.2b%, 28.1k%, .206bip, .145avg, .034iso, 36wrc+

Dejesus and Brown having a little surge near the end but likely just dead cat bounces for both.

The catchers looking pretty dire.

C Duran (21): 90pa, 13.3b%, 18.9k%, .220bip, .171avg, .039iso, 54wrc+

Toman didn't exactly earn his promotion but he wasn't terrible in A either - a nice finish to the year at his age appropriate level might actually make him interesting again.

Coffey is injured i think.

Duran slowly but surely recovering from his ice cold start to the level.

Slightly Old for Level

UT Freethy (22): 54pa, 14.8b%, 18.5k%, .412bip, .333avg, .200iso, 171wrc+

IF Harry (22): 169pa, 10.1b%, 19.5k%, .243bip, .207avg, .107iso, 69wrc+

Freethy and Hernandez probably should have been up here earlier in the year. Not that they were amazing in A ball but they were good enough imo that at their ages they should have been here.

Is Parker injured now?

Old for Level

OF Micheletti (23): 411pa, 16.1b%, 15.3k%, .240bip, .231avg, .204iso, 123wrc+

C Stone* (23): 63pa, 6.3b%, 17.5k%, .222bip, .185avg, .074iso, 50wrc+

I continue to be very interested to see what Micheletti can do at the next level and/or with his babip counter reset to zero. He's on a legit tear recently now that his babip is coming back to normal. His line looks legit exciting even at his age if it can be repdroduced with a normal babip.

Gilliland hitting better in his return to this level. He might deserve an AA spot ahead of the likes of Sharp/Deschamps/Stone.

I only included Scannell here because he torched A pretty well while being way too old for the level - if he can torch this level too then maybe he gets on the prospect radar.

I see Munoz is finally back....but ice cold since his return. Let's see if he can get back on track.

Toman moved up finally despite just a "good" line, but still young enough to hope on.

Not a great start for all of these new guys out of the draft tho.

Freethy and Hernandez shoulda been up out of here earlier imo. And Tibbitts likely already up a level too if he hadn't been injured.

Solid starts for the 3 new guys out of the draft here, but these were very conservative placements for them at their ages. They're likely stuck here for the rest of the year but i'd hope they'd be fast movers through a level or two next year if they perform.

Teoscar Hernandez turned out to be a good player. Great HR power. He came up when the Jays were trying to compete with the 2015/16 team still here but ageing and ended up rebuilding. So he got an opportunity to easily get into the lineup when learning the league.

The young players in 2025 like Roden, Barger, Clase, Loperfido, Leo Jimenez and Wagner got playing time in 2024 except for Roden. Most Bauxites expected 2025 to be competitive, but they have overperformed.

So if Teo needed 200PAs to adjust then so do other young players need adjustment time. The Jays could afford Teo's high K rate due to rebuilding.
