Reggie Jackson's team mates, in Oakland anyway, called him "Buck." Mr October, like Fordham Flash, was a media name. Not that there's anything wrong with that...

It's probably just me, but I like a nickname that just takes over, that ends up replacing the player's real name. We got some good ones here: Galvin and Hafey especially, but Gossage and Hunter as well.

This installment gets you just as far as the letter J - now when you come to the letter M, you have a dilemma. Because there's one player with two well-known nicknames. Our own Mike Moffatt has of course adopted one of those for his New Box Handle, but will you choose that one? Or will you be able to resist "The Wild Horse of the Osage?"

I can't wait.

Until today I didn't even know what Hafey and Goslin's given names were.

If you've ever seen a picture of Goose Goslin, you'll know why I voted for him.

Mags, not to call you out or anything, but since we're llimiting the choices to Hall of Famers, the "Goose" in question is Goslin, not Gossage.

But your point remains. And Rich Gossage SHOULD be in the Hall of Fame, next to Bruce Sutter, who hadn't a nickname I'm aware of, anyway.
