Originally published Dec. 31, 2004. This story has been slightly modified and re-edited for today's encore presentation here.

It's New Year's Eve, from Toronto to here in D/FW, out toward Cali, and by the time most of you read this, it will be the new year in places like Seattle, Vancouver and Honolulu.  In that spirit, see if you can't find a minute or two today to offer New Year's wishes to your fellow Bauxites, using the below format (yes, that's still the challenge!), made possible by the miracle workers at Baseball-Reference.com:

First, some advice ... if you need a little pick-me-up in order to find your bliss on New Year's day ...

... don't automatically reach for the Jack Daniels or the Johnny Walker (Red, Blue, Black or Gold(en) label) ... even too many Beers, (especially great minor beers like Sam Adams),  too much wine or an excess of old-fashioned mead -- any could cause you to do something that forces a neighbor to call a cop.

Just find a friend, stay wise (you know, smart) from head to foot, maybe take a trip down to the local equivalent of Pop Tate's Chok'lit Shoppe (of Archie Andrews comic book fame) -- maybe you can turn on the T.V. and watch the ball drop in New York, N.Y. with Dick Clark or, if you must, Carson Daly or even Anderson Cooper.

Most of all, don't take a chance that could put your life at risk, or your new year could go to hell in a hand, basket. After all, who knows, maybe 2010 is the year of the third ring for each and every Blue Jay; that'd be something to celebrate here in the Batter's Box Fanzone.

Mick, I'm pretty sure 2004 won't be the year of the third ring.

Wildly entertaining (story? lead in? post?)...ok I don't know what it is, but it's damn slick.

Tyler, now that I'm back from my Edit screen, I can ask, "why, whatever do you mean?"

Thanks. This is why I'm the writer and my wife is the technical editor.

Since you're a Yankee fan Mick, I give you this: " A Series of Unfortunate Payrolls".

It's scary realistic.

If you see anybody barf(ield) or plunk down on the floor, be sure to take their car(r) key, especially if they’ve had six(to) Sam Adams.

Sorry for the football reference, but you took all the good baseball alcohol ones!

Tom, I took the liberty of editing your comment to fix the links. Hope you don't mind! Anybody who can work Sixto Lezcano into the converation, after all!

Minor Nit-Pick:

Regis will be Philling in for Dick Clark tonight. I don't Know if that's a Good thing or not...I won't be Watching it anyWay.

I can't believe there was a "Fanzone". Great job!

Pretty sure 2010 won't be the year of the third ring for the Jays either. ;-) I'd bet on that...

Excellent job. In a way it takes me back to the days when I first discovered bb-ref.

That site deserves a hat tip each and every year (and now fangraphs does too).

Just as a public service announcement: I'd recommend folk those folk who can throw a few bucks the site's way and sponsor a Jay...

...will be available soon. I'm been a bit o jinx, I sponsored Chacin in 2007, Wells in 2008, and Zep in 2010. Lind/Hill are available but too much of a chuck o' change for me.

...and now JPA in 2011. Here's hoping I break the streak.

Correction -- not sure what I was thinking, but former UNLV All-American Anderson Hunt did not, of course, host a NYE teevee show last night. Apologies to Anderson Cooper --  the correction has been made!

Jan. 1 and I've already used up my 2011 mulligan ... holy crap!

As the man sang, what's so funny 'bout Peace, Love and Understanding? Well, actually a 6'7" left-handed pitcher weighing 195 lbs and called Slim Love is kinda funny.  I wonder if Bon Iver knew about him when he wrote Skinny Love.  Happy new year, bauxites.
