The affiliates went 4-5 Friday and are on the verge of another loss after an extra-extra-extra innings game was cut short due to rain. The good news was a doubleheader shutout and a 13-inning walk-off victory.

Buffalo 2 Pawtucket 1 (13 Innings)

Buffalo, NY
- Despite going 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position and leaving 12 men on base, the Bisons were able to walk this one off. They did it with it a two-out rally that started with Caleb Gindl getting a single and ended with him rumbling around the remaining 270 feet on a Jon Berti double. Berti singled and scored the tying run on an error back in the fifth inning as part of a 4-for-6 night. Alex Hassan had a two-hit night while Dalton Pompey and Andy Burns each singled and walked at the top of the order. The other hits came from Melky Mesa, who doubled, and Josh Thole, who singled. Matt Hague was 0-for-5 with a walk but Jonathan Diaz was simply 0-for-5. Sean Ochinko was 0-for-1 after Thole was replaced by pinch-runner Munenori Kawasaki.

Randy Wolf limited the Red Sox affiliate to a run on two hits and three walks over eight shutout innings. He struck out four and racked up 14 outs on the ground for a Game Score of 75. Steve Delabar pitched a one-hit ninth and Gregory Infante followed with a one-walk 10th in which he had a pair of strikeouts. Greg Burke (3-0) scattered two hits and a walk with 5 K's over three shutout innings for the win.

Reading 5 New Hampshire 3

Manchester, NH
- The Fisher Cats got on the board against the Phillies farm club in their first at-bat on a K.C. Hobson single to score a Jorge Flores walk but Kevin Nolan was thrown out at home plate to end the inning. They would not score again until the seventh when Jack Murphy tripled and scored on a Matt Newman base hit. A Ryan Schimpf fielder's choice in the eighth inning brought in a Shane Opitz single for the final run. Flores and Opitz had two hits apiece with Flores also drawing a walk. Schimpf singled and walked,  Emilio Guerrero had the other hit and Nolan stole a base. Christian Lopes was 0-for-3.

Casey Lawrence (10-10, 5.28) lasted seven innings but trouble in the third and fourth led to five runs on nine hits and two walks. He struck out six and his groundout total was nine. Luis Perez managed to work around two walks and a hit by pitch to put up two scoreless frames in which he whiffed one.

Dunedin 7 Palm Beach 0 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)

Dunedin, FL
- Conner Greene (1-3, 2.73) was money in this one, throwing six shutout frames and holding the Cards to four hits and two walks. He struck out three and divided his 14 outs in play evenly between the infield and outfield. Brady Dragmire struck out two in a one-hit seventh to wrap things up.

The winning run came in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Rowdy Tellez that delivered a leadoff single from Anthony Alford (he's still here? whew!). Tellez, Richard Urena and Mitch Nay collected RBI base hits and a wild pitch scored another in a four-run third. Derrick Loveless had an RBI single and Alford walked with the bases loaded for the final two runs in the sixth. Nay and Loveless led the way with two hits each. Andy Fermin was on base twice with a hit and a walk. Derrick Chung got a base on balls but Matt Dean and L.B. Dantzler were 0-for-3 with Dean going down on strikes in each at-bat.

Dunedin 4 Palm Beach 0 (Game 2 - 7 Innings)

Matt Dermody
(3-0, 4.06) made his first start of the season and it was a good one. The lefty blanked the Cardinals on a two-hitter over five innings, striking out two and getting seven of his 12 outs in play on the diamond. Like Greene, Dermody put up a Game Score was 65. Arik Sikula struck out three of the six batters he faced over two perfect frames to finish off the doubleheader sweep.

Dickie Joe Thon gave Dunedin the only runs they needed on a two-run triple to cash in base hits by Matt Dean and L.B. Dantzler in the second. Rowdy Tellez provided more insurance in the fifth with a two-run double that sent a Mike Reeves walk and an Anthony Alford single home. Dantzler had two hits and Richard Urena had one. Mitch Nay and J.D. Davis were both 0-for-3.

Bowling Green 5 Lansing 1

Bowling Green, KY
- The Hot Rods scored four times in their final at-bat to beat the Lugnuts. Phil Kish (1-2) was punked for all four runs on six hits in the eight while striking out one. That spolied a solid start from Conor Fisk, who pitched seven strong innings with just one run and five hits allowed. His strikeout and groundout totals were six to produce a Game Score of 69.

Lansing's only run came on a double steal with Dawel Lugo swiping home and Josh Almonte taking second in the second inning to give them a 1-0 lead. Lugo had a three-hit game and Boomer Collins had the only other hit. Collins, Almonte, D.J. Davis and Michael De La Cruz drew the free passes. David Harris and Jason Leblebijian were 0-for-4 and Austin Davis was 0-for-3.

Boise 7 Vancouver 4

Boise, ID
- Tayler Saucedo (0-1, 4.50) had a rough outing in his Vancouver debut. The lefty walked five and surrendered four hits which led to three runs in four innings. One of the runs was unearned after an error by Gunnar Heidt at third. Saucedo and his batterymate Josh Reavis were burned by the Boise running game after stealing four bases in five tries. On the positive side, Saucedo struck out four and had a 7-1 groundout/flyout total. Francisco Rios was also rocked for three runs (two earned but it was his throwing error) on two hits and two walks over three-plus innings but he struck out three. Brandon Hinkle could not strand Rios' two runners and uncorked two wild pitches that resulted in a run. He gave up two hits and a walk and struck out one in the eighth.

Toronto native Connor Panas had two hits and a run batted in Friday night.

The C's got their bats going in the fifth when Conor Panas doubled home a Sean Hurley single. They pulled to within 4-3 on consecutive RBI groundouts by J.C. Cardenas and Reavis. Hurley tripled to start off the ninth and came home on a Lane Thomas sacrifice fly. Hurley and Panas had two hits while Thomas singled and walked. Heidt, Cardenas, Reavis and Justin Atkinson all had base hits with Heidt stealing a base. Andrew Guillotte was 0-for-5 and Ryan Hissey was 0-for-4.

Johnson City 2 Bluefield 1

Johnson City, TN
- Bluefield only had one hit on the night and that came on a single by Brett Wellman. The only Bluefield run was scored without a hit when Andres Sotillo was hit by a pitch, made it second on a wild pitch and scored on a throwing error in the third. D.J. McKnight reached base three times on walks while Sotillo also drew a walk. Freddy Rodriguez, Gabriel Clark and Christian Williams were 0-for-4 while Yeltsin Gudino, Aaron Attaway and Nick Sinay went 0-for-3. Deiferson Barreto was 0-for-1.

Geno Encina
pitched 4-2/3 innings and gave up a run on two hits and two walks. He struck out five and got five outs on the grass for a Game Score of 59. Zak Wasilewski could only strand one of two runners and gave up four hits and two walks but still managed to avoid giving up any runs in 2-1/3 innings. Alberto Guzman (1-3) allowed the winning run on four hits in the eighth.

GCL Tigers 5 GCL Blue Jays 4 (Suspended By Rain - Bottom 23rd)

Dunedin, FL
- The Jays tied this game in the 21st after the Tigers went ahead but can they do it again in the 23rd? Lance Jones drew a one-out walk before the game was called. Cliffhanger!!

DSL Blue Jays 5 DSL White Sox 3

Boca Chica, DR
- The Jays looked like they were going to waste a leadoff triple from Antony Fuentes but Kevin Vicuna came through with a two-out RBI single for the first run of the game in the second inning. Sam Buelens started a three-run rally in the seventh with a run-scoring single and eventually scored on an error. Yorman Rodriguez would drive home a Norberto Obeso double with a base hit. An Anderson Green bases-loaded walk provided an insurance marker in the ninth. Obeso had two hits and a walk while Sterling Guzman and Yorman Rodriguez had a knock and a walk. Francisco Rodriguez and Manuel Herazo both worked the count to ball four. Enmanuel Moreta was 0-for-4 and Andres Guerra was 0-for-1 after replacing Herazo behind the plate. Jesus Navarro was 0-for-1 but stole a base and scored a run. Yorman Rodriguez also stole a base. Defensively, Buelens threw out a runner at second base from center field.

Juan Meza went five innings and allowed three runs on four hits and two hit by pitches. He only struck one and uncorked three wild pitches but induced eight groundball outs. Jose Acosta (3-0) walked three but still managed to throw two-plus shutout frames. Alvardo Galindo stranded two runners and almost turned the same trick as Acosta by giving up three hits over two scoreless innings but he struck out one to get the save.

I missed the Rays' acquisition of Chi Wei Hu at the deadline.  Chris Mitchell at fangraphs brought me up to speed statistically.  Nice pitching prospect.

not a good day for our best two pitching prospects, Jon Harris and Sean Reid-Foley

maybe we should look elsewhere for them....Greene and Espada?

There could be a number of reasons for it but Harris has been downright poor as an advanced college arm in short season A. I haven't seen him live yet but several people I know have seen him and been pretty unimpressed. He could be tired but this season should send up a small red flag.
