The good folks at Baseball Primer are saddling up their mid-season Primey Nominations right now. Batter's Box has already received a few nominations as Best Weblog, for which we're profoundly grateful; in only our ninth month of existence, it's good to know we're making an impact. If you haven't cast your vote, please do, and not necessarily or just for Da Box: the Primeys recognize excellence in online baseball writing, reporting and analysis generally, and are well worth supporting.

It's an honour just to be nominated, considering the other great blogs out there. Thanks to everyone for their kind words about us on Primer.

Someone asked in an e-mail the other day if we would be active all winter. Absolutely; last year, with a fraction of the present readership, the only really slow time was a couple of days on either side of Christmas. Even without the Jays participating, we'll be avidly following the postseason. There's offseason moves, winter ball, the annual Rule 5 harvest and before you know it, spring training. You can also expect plenty of features; we might even copy the Primeys and invite your feedback on Da Best Of Da Box.

Coach, I'll have a talk with Dan Werr about whether we'll be able to be appear in the final nominations. I would lean to "no", since Primer authors (such as Robert and myself) aren't eligible for Primeys. Since we're only a small part of the site, I'd hope the other seven or eight of you will be able to be honoured, and lose a blowout to Prospectus or Aaron or USS Mariner. :)

Craig, FWIW, I don't see why you guys should be ineligible. It's not lke Oscar voters aren't eligible to receive Academy Awards. You're essentially punishing yourselves for writing at the same medium where the ballots are being counted. It's not a vote of Primer authors, it's a vote of Primer visitors. If you really want to avoid even the appearance of conflict, create a special "Best Primer Author" category. You folks do great work and it ought to be recognized.

On Primer I have shamefully cast my lot for the BB crowd, and I would be honoured if BB can get crushed by BP, Gleeman, or the USS Mariner crowd. Hey, it's better than losing to Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I'd suggest a similar contest for BB -- such as best BB contributor -- but that specific instance would merely be a race for second.
